Hey Diane, It’s been one month since the Supreme Court dismantled key parts of the Voting Rights Act. Within hours of the ruling, lawmakers in multiple states started the process of systematically weakening the voting power of Black and brown Americans — all in an effort to gain an extra advantage in the midterms. This should be a wake-up call for everyone who believes in fairness and equality. It should unsettle all of us who have faith in the American experiment, and the bedrock principle that every citizen should play a role in shaping our future. Republicans are trying to undermine democracy because they care more about holding power than improving the lives of their constituents. But no matter what they may want us to believe, the most powerful title in this country is citizen. We get to decide where we go from here. The weeks and months ahead will be tough. We will win some fights, and we may lose others. But when we look back at this moment years from now, we should feel confident that we did everything we could to protect and strengthen our democracy. Thank you, Barack Obama

Dianea, Did you see President Obama’s email on Wednesday? We wanted to make sure you got it, because there’s no better moment than now to take action. Dianea, the DNC is the only organization working around the clock to register new Democrats in key states, organize across the country, and distribute resources to campaigns and state parties that need it. Thank you, The Democrats ---------- Forwarded message ---------
Dianea, I’m the hope and change guy, but I’ll be honest: we’ve got some real work to do in this country. And if we want to make progress, we’ll need leaders who tell the truth, tackle hard problems, and serve the people who put them in office in the first place. The good news is we have the chance to elect leaders like that this year — in both houses of Congress, governorships, state legislatures, and offices up and down the ballot. But it’s going to take all of us to do it. It’s up to all of us, as citizens, to stand up for our values. We can’t just leave it to somebody else. We have to fight, even when it’s hard. Republicans want you to think that a few people in power make all the decisions and the rest of us have to live with the consequences. But when you look at the history of America, real change has always come from the bottom up — from ordinary folks who make it happen. So yes, we are being tested. But we have the power, as citizens, to change this country. We’ve just got to use it. Dianea, the DNC is the only organization working to elect the Democratic leaders we need at all levels of government, all across the country. When you chip in to the DNC, you’re supporting thousands of candidates we must elect this year. If you've stored your info with ActBlue, we'll process your contribution instantly. Thank you, Dianea. Barack Barack Obama If you gave recently via check or mail, our system may not have yet processed your gift. We are appreciative and thank you greatly for your support. A message from DNC Chair Ken Martin: Want to receive fewer emails? Click here. Contributions or gifts to the Democratic National Committee are not tax deductible. Paid for by the Democratic National Committee, www.Democrats.org, and not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee. Click here if you no longer wish to receive emails from the DNC. |

5 ways to Trump-proof our elections

Diane, It’s tempting to tune out Trump’s constant threats to “take over” or “nationalize” the midterm elections, and hope that it’s just bluster or that the courts will step in to stop his attempts to suppress the vote by executive order. But, in the words of Attorney General Eric Holder, “Doing nothing — or capitulating — while Trump destroys our democracy is not an option.” Here’s what we can all do right now to Trump-proof our elections:
Thank you for helping protect our democracy, Team NDRC
