We cannot take Black women for granted

It's up to us to change course and get our country back on track.
Friend --

From Harriet Tubman to Sojourner Truth to Shirley Chisholm to Coretta Scott King to Michelle Obama to Kamala Harris, Black women have been at the forefront of progress in this country from day one.

And if you look back to earlier this month in Alabama, you'll see a clear example of what happens when Democrats mobilize in our communities. Ninety-eight percent of Black women who voted in that special Senate election voted for Doug Jones. Without them, Roy Moore would be a U.S. Senator.

While it's true that Black women support the Democratic Party in incredibly large numbers, it's also important that we bring people of all backgrounds into the fold. The only way Democrats can take back Congress in 2018 is if every single one of us gets involved.

Donate $3 before tomorrow's end-of-year fundraising deadline if you're ready to help Democrats organize nationwide in 2018.

We can't take the support of Black women for granted. We have to listen to and empower these voices every single day -- not just when there's an election coming, but all of the time.

After all, that's what the Democratic Party is all about. We are the party that opens our doors to everyone and fights on behalf of all Americans, no matter where they live or what they look like.

Everything we do between now and Election Day will impact our ability to win back control of Congress. Let's make sure Democrats have the resources to organize and win.

Chip in $3 ahead of tomorrow's end-of-year deadline to help Democrats get to work in every community, all across the country.

Jenny sent me your info - is it right?

Hi there --

My re-election campaign is facing a really important FEC deadline on Sunday. To win my race in 2018, I'll really need your help. Here's what my finance director, Jenny, tells me about your current status:
Name: DianeA
Email: awolofa@yorkteaparty.org
Re-Election Founding Donor: Not yet

I could sure use your help to win in 2018. The fact is, my race isn't going to be a cake walk. While my opponents might be a bit "out there" -- case in point: did you see that Corey Stewart recently brought up the old Barack Obama birtherism conspiracy theory again? Seriously, earlier this month he tweeted that Democrats had forged President Obama's birth certificate! -- but whoever the Virginia GOP nominates to run against me is going to have the full backing of national special interests.

During my last Senate race, those groups dropped $28 million against me. We won -- but it took every last supporter stepping up as much as they possibly could to do it. This year is going to be no different.

So I'm asking you: Will you step up and support my re-election with a donation before the year-end deadline?

You can make an online contribution easily by following this link: https://timkaine.com/year-end-deadline

Thank you. Thank you so much.

Tim Kaine

BREAKING: Yet another extremist officially enters VA race

Tim Kaine now has three Republicans trying to defeat him next November. We've already got Corey Stewart, the anti-immigrant, confederate-sympathizing "mini-Trump," and Nick Freitas, the anti-LGBTQ NRA shill -- both of whom want to serve as a rubber stamp for President Trump's extreme agenda in Virginia. Now, after teasing his run with a quiet website update last week, E.W. Jackson is officially in, too.

You may think that a third opponent getting into this race would be more moderate... but you would be wrong. As Tim's research director, I spend a LOT of time looking into these guys, so I know exactly who we're dealing with. Here are the highlights:

E.W. Jackson, like many Republicans, wants to defund Planned Parenthood. But unlike almost anyone else, he has also called it "far more lethal to black lives than the KKK ever was.” Fact check: Planned Parenthood is one of the critical health organizations that provides access to care to many minority communities. He has called President Obama "the Antichrist." As for LGBTQ people? Jackson says they're "very sick" and "perverted."

This guy is beyond out-of-touch -- he's extremely offensive, dangerous, and would embarrass Virginia.

No matter which of these three extreme candidates Tim faces next year, it's clear that the Republican Party of Virginia doesn't have much to offer hardworking families in the Commonwealth. Their candidates would rather demonize our friends and neighbors than offer good ideas to help people.

But that doesn't mean it's going to be a cake walk. Special interests will pour money into this race to try to take Tim out of the Senate. To fight back, he needs every supporter to chip in $15 right now.

Let's show E.W. Jackson, Nick Freitas, Corey Stewart, and everyone else watching Virginia with a close eye that we're ready to build a *huge* grassroots movement behind Tim.

Thanks for your help. I'll keep you posted with the latest updates on our opponents.

Redistricting matters.

This is a civil rights issue that threatens the very soul of our democracy. The system is rigged - join the fight to fix it.

Diane --

A system where politicians pick their voters.

That's what we have right now, and Diane, we deserve so much better.

It's why with the support of President Obama, I started the National Democratic Redistricting Committee -- to fight the gerrymandering that's been holding back our democracy for so long, and to make sure that your vote counts the way it should when you step inside a voting booth.

It's not going to be easy, but together we can fix this rigged system. We can ensure that the next round of redistricting results in maps that represent the diversity of our communities, not the desires of politicians trying to guarantee their own reelection. But we need your help to do it.

OFA and the NDRC are working together to create a more fair, more inclusive democracy. Sign up now and we'll be in touch with ways you can help:

Obamacare isn't about Barack at all

Obamacare is here to stay.
DemocratsJoin us.
Republicans are doing everything they can to sabotage Obamacare. Pitch in $3 or more to help elect Democrats who will fight back.

When I think about Obamacare, I think about my wife, Ann Marie, and our three kids. I think about the children all across this country and the parents caring for them. I think about the brave men and women who've shared their personal stories of how access to affordable care has changed their lives. I think about you.

But when our current president thinks about "Obamacare," he only sees another opportunity to undo President Obama's legacy.

He doesn't consider for a second the millions of families who count on the ACA for quality, affordable care. He doesn't care about women who, before the ACA, faced higher premiums simply because of their gender. He doesn't think about children who are born with a life-threatening illness and, without protections for pre-existing conditions, could be forced to pay astronomical rates for the rest of their lives.

But Democrats in Congress and all over the country are doing everything we can to save and protect Obamacare -- we're doing it for the millions of Americans who are counting on it.

If you're committed to helping elect Democrats who will protect our care, pitch in $3 or more now.

What's next:

Gerrymandering has held us back for far too long - we have a chance to change that.
Organizing for Action
Diane --

When I left office, I asked you to embrace the responsibility of active citizenship -- to get involved in our political process, regardless of which way the pendulum of power swings. And over the course of this year, I've seen millions of people answer that call.

You signed up with OFA to take action, and your efforts made a difference. All summer long, for example, you called your members of Congress, you showed up at their town halls, and you used your voice on social media to protect people's health insurance from partisan politics. And it worked.

Together, you've stood up for science and stood against hate, you've marched for women's rights and protested a divisive immigration agenda.

You're doing the hard work of citizenship. You've inspired me all over again. You remind me of the energy that fueled our campaigns in 2008 and 2012. And I know that once again, we can turn that grassroots energy into real, lasting change.

That's why I'm writing you today.

Soon, our states will be redrawing their Congressional and state legislative district lines. It's called redistricting, and it will take place in 2021, after the next Census takes place. That may seem far off, but the time to get started on this issue is now.

This is our best chance to eliminate the partisan gerrymandering that has blocked progress on so many of the issues we all care about. Simply put, redistricting has the potential to be a major turning point for our democracy. But we need to be prepared.

That's where the National Democratic Redistricting Committee comes in. Led by Eric Holder, my former Attorney General, they're the strategic hub for Democratic activity leading up to redistricting. In partnership with groups like OFA, the NDRC is building the infrastructure Democrats need to ensure a fair outcome. But they need your help.

Sign up on this page, Diane, and let them know that you want in.

The NDRC is providing a comprehensive strategy for the path forward. They're challenging unconstitutional maps in court, and doing the necessary state-by-state electoral work to make sure Democrats have a seat at the table for redistricting.

To support them, OFA volunteers and supporters will provide the grassroots organizing capacity and mobilization that we'll need to win state-level elections and move other initiatives forward ahead of the 2021 redistricting process -- making sure that states are in the best position possible to draw fair maps.

Systemic gerrymandering has favored one side over the other in literally hundreds of congressional and state legislative districts around the country.

If we're ever going to truly achieve our vision of an America that works for everyone, we have to draw our districts so that politicians are encouraged to cater to common sense, not rigid extremes.

Getting that done will require participation. It will require each of us continuing to accept our responsibility to be active, engaged citizens.

This fight matters, and OFA and the NDRC need you to be a part of it. Say that you will be:

Inside Senator Kaine's new health care plan:

Tim introduced new legislation this week called Medicare-X that gives more insurance options to more Americans, so folks can choose an affordable plan that is best for their health.

We need to keep leaders like Tim in the Senate who will fight for legislation that puts people ahead of politics. If you support his reelection, pitch in $10 today to make sure we can build a smart, tough campaign.

DONATE

Earlier this week, Tim introduced new legislation to create a plan called Medicare-X, which would expand affordable insurance options for folks across the country.

What is Medicare-X?

Medicare-X is a public plan that would offer families, individuals, and small businesses more low-cost health insurance choices.

Why is it called Medicare-X?

This legislation, the Medicare-X Choice Act, builds on the existing Medicare framework so that Americans can have a choice of an affordable, high-quality public insurance plan on the exchanges.

Why do we need Medicare-X?

Last week, President Trump signed an executive order that destabilizes our health care system and which could cause premiums to go up, people to lose their coverage, and insurers to be driven out of the marketplace. There's already a shortage of insurers and higher health care costs in some areas (especially rural communities), and this action from the President is only going to make things worse.

Medicare-X prioritizes these areas that are hit hardest -- and by 2023, it would expand to every single ZIP code in the country. By the following year, it would be added as another option for small businesses to opt into.

The bottom line:

Americans deserve more health care choices, at lower prices. By creating this permanent Medicare-X option, folks everywhere will be able to choose an affordable plan that is best for their health.

Tim won't stand idly by as President Trump sabotages our health care system. And while many congressional Republicans may continue their attempts to dismantle health care at every turn, we can't let that distract us. We need to build on the progress toward universal coverage that President Obama started seven years ago with the Affordable Care Act.

That's why it's critical that we keep leaders like Tim in the Senate -- leaders committed to introducing legislation that helps families, not willing to play politics with Americans' lives and livelihoods.

If you agree, make a contribution today to support Tim's reelection to the Senate. We can't afford to move backwards -- so chip in $10 or whatever you can afford, and say you're in for six more years of putting people above politics.
