Join OFA in calling on the Senate to fairly consider President Obama's Supreme Court nominee. Diane -- Knee-jerk obstructionism is nothing new in Congress. Extreme members have led government shutdowns, held up cabinet and judicial appointments, fought tooth and nail to take away health care from millions of people, or prevented movement on key issues like immigration reform and common-sense gun safety legislation. But the appointment of our next Supreme Court Justice has to be different. Our Supreme Court is too important to be held hostage by the same partisan gridlock that has slowed progress on so many priorities. We deserve a fully-functioning Supreme Court, and OFA is working to make sure obstructionists in the Senate get the message -- add your name to the thousands of supporters demanding a fair and timely nomination process. President Obama is taking his constitutional responsibility seriously, and he's going to do the job he was elected to do. If Senate leaders choose to do the opposite, they'll be making a dangerous and unprecedented choice. This year, the Supreme Court is set to rule on some of the most important issues we face, and their rulings will impact our country for generations to come. Our next Supreme Court Justice

Diane -- This weekend we learned of the passing of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. While we didn't always agree with his rulings, we recognize the passion he held for the law, and his dedication to the institution of the Court. But now the Supreme Court only has eight members, even as it is about to consider some of the most important issues facing our country -- from climate change and immigration reform, to women's and workers' rights. Shockingly, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's first reaction to this news was to say that the Senate should refuse to do its constitutional duty, and block President Obama from filling the vacancy. Diane, the Senate has a responsibility to fairly consider the President's nomination for the court, and we need to make sure they get the message. OFA is putting together a petition to send a clear message to the lawmakers obstructing this process. Make sure your voice is heard -- sign this petition now. Let's be clear about what the Constitution says about this: When there's a vacancy on the Supreme Court, the President is required to nominate someone to fill it, and the Senate must give that nominee fair consideration. Anyone who says otherwise is putting politics first. The longest time a Supreme Court nominee has ever had to wait to get a vote was 125 days, and President Obama has more than 300 days remaining in his term. Love is love

Diane -- Every year on Valentine's Day I can't help but think back to my first date with Barack. I had been reluctant to go out with him, but he was persistent, and I eventually said yes. We took a walk through the gardens at the Art Institute in Chicago, saw "Do the Right Thing," and went out for ice cream (he was really trying to impress me). It took some convincing, Diane, but I'm so glad I went on that date. I simply cannot imagine my life without the unwavering love and support that has defined our marriage, and I'm so glad that we have finally achieved marriage equality, affirming, as Barack put it in his inaugural address, that "if we are truly created equal, then the love we commit to one another must be equal as well." But the fact is that too many people in the LGBT community still face harassment and discrimination because of who they are or whom they love. That's unacceptable. It's simply not who we are as Americans. OFA is one of the groups fighting for full equality for all Americans -- regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
