we aren’t powerless

President Obama: The fight to safeguard our democracy is happening every day. That's how it's always been, and that's how it will continue.

President Obama is right, Diane. Here at the NDRC, we're in a constant fight to protect our democracy from those who seek to weaken it – and that's why I'm asking you to make a monthly recurring donation to power our work.

Will you pitch in?

Right now, Republicans are asking the Supreme Court to completely dismantle Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. If they succeed, taking back the House majority and passing new protections will be the only way to defend voting rights at the national level.

Here's the bad news: Across the country, Republicans are trying to all but guarantee that they'll hold the House majority by manipulating maps ahead of the next election:

POLITICO:
"Republicans are readying to plow ahead with ambitious gerrymandering . . . [they] could more than double their five-seat House majority through redistricting alone."

But here's the good news, Diane: We aren't powerless against these attacks.

Our grassroots movement has proven that, when we work together, we can accomplish incredible things. In fact, ahead of the 2022 elections, our work helped to secure a House map that the New York Times called "the fairest . . . of the last 40 years."

If we stay committed to this fight, I'm confident we can combat gerrymandering and voter suppression, strengthen our democracy, and place power back in the hands of the people. But we can't do it alone.

With the GOP attacking our democracy on multiple fronts, it's essential that we remain united and vigilant in our fight for fairness. Monthly donations help us plan for the long term by providing a steady stream of resources so we can make strategic investments and be prepared for whatever comes our way.

That's why I'm asking our top supporters to help sustain the NDRC's democracy-saving work over the long term by committing to a monthly recurring donation. Can I count on you?

– Marina Jenkins
Executive Director of the NDRC
