I'd love to explain why

I'm sure you're keeping up with the news. The Iowa caucuses are just a couple of weeks away -- which means soon the presidential race will be getting even more attention.

Diane,

This is a fundraising email, so at the end of it, I'm going to ask you to donate to help us hit our $40,000 mid-month goal. I'd love to explain why, but if you're already sold, here's a link so you can give right away.

I'm sure you're keeping up with the news. The Iowa caucuses are just a couple of weeks away -- which means soon the presidential race will get even hotter.

I'm worried that means fewer people will be paying attention to the state and local races that will determine whether the next 10 years' worth of elections are fair.

We can't afford to sit out these races, Diane. In 2017, in 2018, and again in 2019, we had some huge wins -- even in states like Kentucky and Louisiana -- because people were focused on down-ballot races. If Democratic voters focus only on the White House in 2020, all that progress could be for nothing.

This is the last year before redistricting, and we can't let Republicans win in the states -- we just can't. Will you pitch in now to give our fair-map candidates the best shot at winning?

Look, what happens at the top of the ticket is critical. As A.G. Holder says, it's an "existential election." But that doesn't mean we can take our eye off of state and local races.

That's what Democrats did in 2010 -- and as a result, Republicans swept statehouses and governor's offices and were able to manipulate the maps for a decade. The resulting GOP-controlled Congress obstructed every piece of President Obama's agenda... and now they're propping up Donald Trump.

It won't be easy to win our 2020 races. We're in a new landscape after an unfavorable Supreme Court decision, Republicans are suppressing the vote, and former GOP House Speakers Newt Gingrich, John Boehner, and Paul Ryan are joining forces to help manipulate the maps again.

But if anyone can do it, it's this team. So here's where I ask for your donation:

2020 is our last chance to beat map-rigging Republicans at the ballot box. Will you pitch in to our mid-month goal to help us defeat them and secure fair maps in 2021?
