It's time for another comeback

When I took over the DNC in 2005, our party was reeling from defeat. Republicans had control of the White House and both chambers of Congress.
When I took over the DNC in 2005, our party was reeling from defeat.

Republicans had control of the White House and both chambers of Congress. The day after Election Day in 2004, the New York Times ran a story headlined, "Baffled in Loss, Democrats Seek Road Forward." This should all sound familiar, because it's not that far off from what happened in 2016.

But here's the thing: We made a huge comeback. Democrats took back control of the House and Senate in 2006, and then we elected Barack Obama to the White House in 2008. That didn't happen by accident -- it happened because we made unprecedented investments in all 50 states across the country, building up a party infrastructure that made sure we capitalized as much as possible from a surge of activism against an unpopular Republican president.

We have a chance to do the same thing this year. That's why the DNC is investing in all 50 state parties so Democrats can win back power at every level in every ZIP code in this country. We have the chance to make historic gains in 2018 -- but the level of those gains could depend on what we raise between now and tomorrow's critical FEC deadline.

There couldn't be a more important time to make your first donation of 2018. Chip in $3 before tomorrow's deadline to be a part of the Democratic Party's comeback this year.

After you lose an election you have to take a good, long look at what went wrong -- and make changes if necessary. We did that in 2005, and it led to wins in the years to come. But our party got away from the 50-state approach, and we paid for it at the ballot box in 2010, 2014, and 2016.

That's why the DNC is getting back to the basics this year. We are making critical investments in state parties and grassroots organizing, developing new tools and technology, and supporting candidates running in all 50 states. That's what it will take for us to win not just in November, but in 2020 and beyond, and I am counting on you to be a part of this fight.

With only two months until Election Day, we have to come together now -- before tomorrow's deadline -- to support the organizing work to help Democrats win up and down the ballot.

Now is the time to make your first donation of 2018. Be a part of the Democratic Party's comeback and make a $3 contribution before tomorrow's deadline.

Thank you for your commitment to the Democratic Party.

P.S. Labor Day marks the start of the final stretch of campaign season -- and tomorrow is the last deadline before then. Before our candidates enter their final sprint before this election, can you make an urgent donation of $3 to the Democratic Party? Thank you.
