A divisive vision

Republican lawmakers in Congress refused to even debate the Freedom to Vote Act & the John Lewis VRAA.

Diane -- Right now, state legislatures across the country are in the process of redrawing electoral districts for the next decade.

In some states, Republican politicians are doubling down on the steps they've taken to restrict voting by politically gerrymandering districts in a way that drowns out the voices of ordinary people.

At the same time, Republicans in Washington are trying to make it harder, not easier, for Americans to vote. Senate Republicans refused to even debate the Freedom to Vote Act and all but one refused debate on the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act -- two bills that would reduce gerrymandering and strengthen voting rights.

We need your help, Diane. If we don't fight for fair maps now, we won't have another chance until 2031.

Can I count on you to make a one-time donation of $20.31 to All On The Line? Donations will help the ongoing redistricting battles in states like Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina.

In Texas, for example, Republicans have passed a law designed to prevent ordinary citizens from making their voices heard. And now they're redrawing political districts in a way that will allow them to hold onto power.

If we pass the Freedom to Vote Act, the new Texas congressional map would fail to pass the partisan gerrymandering test. The bill would also restore voting rights stripped by state legislatures in Texas and elsewhere this summer. And the John Lewis VRAA would help protect against future voter suppression laws.

That's why I've been calling on Congress to do the right thing and protect what so many generations fought so hard to secure.

And that's why I've been asking you to support All On The Line for over two years now -- because they're the grassroots organization best-equipped to tackle this problem at the state and federal levels.

Fighting for fair maps and passing commonsense democracy legislation are two ways we can improve our political system. That's why I'm asking you:

Will you consider making a donation to All On The Line? New maps are being enacted almost every week, so time is running out.

-- Barack Obama
