Sarah Palin's latest

Organizing for Action
Diane --

This is the last thing I wanted to talk about before Labor Day weekend, but you gotta hear this:

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin just joined the "Defund Obamacare" movement -- a group of people, including 80 members of Congress, who are willing to sabotage the economy because they don't like Obamacare.

This is the kind of reckless nonsense President Obama is up against in trying to pass a smart budget that actually grows the economy for the middle class.

OFA is here to fight back -- because when it comes down to it, I doubt the American people are going to like hearing that people are threatening to shut down the government instead of passing a budget.

For the sake of our national sanity, we're asking people to stand up and be a voice of reason -- add your name to join the fight against this reckless plan.

Congress has a budget deadline of September 30th.

All next month, OFA is going to push Congress to consider President Obama's plan for the country -- one that focuses on creating jobs and growing the economy, instead of scoring political points.

We'll be calling out the radical members of Congress for their recklessness -- and asking John Boehner to be a leader and stand up to his colleagues.

Because if our representatives don't know that there's a price to pay for this kind of nonsense, it's not ever going to stop.

Add your name today -- and join the fight:

Organizing for Action
Diane --

In just a few hours, President Obama will deliver his personal remarks to honor the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech from the very same steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

This is a special moment that we'll remember for a long time -- you should be part of it.

Join the interactive livestream at 2:45 p.m. Eastern Time today -- you can watch the speech and chat with other OFA supporters.

When President Obama talks about the power of Americans to make a difference when they come together and organize, he's talking about us -- and moments like this are a reminder of why we're all here in the first place.

Friend --

You know what's not funny? When 80 members of Congress
say they'll refuse to do their jobs just because they don't get
their way.

That's what happened last week when a gang of House
Republicans sent Speaker John Boehner a letter informing
him that they'd rather trigger a government shutdown before
voting for a budget that funds Obamacare.

It's an absolutely absurd demand -- and it's forcing John
Boehner to make a decision: be a leader or cave to the
extreme members of the House.

The good news is that a lot of folks across the country are
sick of these games.

Add your name -- tell Speaker Boehner to stand up to
anti-Obamacare bullies in Congress right now:

In case you missed it, here's the latest plan being pushed
by some members of the House: Cut all funding for Obamacare,
or shut down the government.

Congress has until September 30th to pass a budget, and
these representatives think this is the best time to wage a
fight against a law that is already helping millions of Americans.

It's going to be up to Speaker John Boehner to decide if
he's going to let these folks play games over the federal budget.

Be a voice of reason -- add your name to tell Speaker
Boehner not to let this craziness get in the way of passing
a smart budget:

The federal budget is how we determine our priorities as
a country. Congress is deciding whether we give more tax
breaks to corporations, or fund programs for our country's
schools, or -- yes -- help people get access to affordable
health care.

President Obama has a budget plan to grow the economy
from the middle out -- not the top down. Because unless
we make investments to help the middle class to grow, we'll
never do more than move from one fiscal crisis to the next.

We don't need more obstructionism from some members
of Congress. And we certainly don't need a government
shutdown.

This country deserves better -- if you agree, add your
name today to stand up to the extreme proposals in the House:

Sheesh...

Diane --

It appears that the extreme heat in Washington is starting to get to some members in the House.

That's the only conclusion you can draw when 80 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have proudly come out in support of shutting down the government before providing any funding for Obamacare.

I'd love to attribute this to the weather. But these are political games, plain and simple.

And if you've had enough of it, join in this fight -- tell Speaker Boehner to be a leader and stand up to the nonsense in his caucus.

Share Your Service Story

From the CEO

Dear Fellow Volunteer:

Hello! As August draws to a close, fall brings with it many exciting changes. For instance, some of you may be headed back to school, or helping prepare another young person who is.

Here at the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the autumn brings with it the second of two congressionally-designated national days of service. Earlier this year, you joined President Obama in pledging to serve as a part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service.

We are asking you to renew that commitment by volunteering in your community for the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance

9/11 Flag Photo

September 11, 2013, marks the 12th anniversary of the worst terrorist attacks ever to occur on U.S. soil. The National Day of Service and Remembrance honors the lives of those who were lost. This day also commemorates the spirit of compassion and generosity that moved many Americans of all backgrounds and faiths to reach out to their neighbors and fellow citizens during the weeks and months that followed.

This year, activities will be occurring around the country the weekend before September 11th and through the weekend following it (9/7-9/15). Visit us at Serve.gov to locate a project near you, or at CNCS' 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance webpage to find helpful tools and resources for organizing a project in your community.

Need an idea to get started?

Well, September is also National Preparedness Month. In fact, many of the organizations that we partner with to support service for the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance engage in community trainings and other activities that help prepare individuals and families for disasters.

I hope that you will join thousands of volunteers around the country in service for the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance, and I also hope that you will share your story with us! You can do this by visiting our Facebook page or tweeting about your good work to @ServeDotGov using hashtag #911Day.

Best,

This is personal for me

Diane --

Michelle and I wouldn't be in the White House today if it weren't for our college educations.

It wasn't cheap. We didn't finish paying off our student loans until about nine years ago.

That's why it's been a personal mission of mine to make higher education more affordable for more Americans -- and starting today, I'm hitting the road to talk about real reforms to fundamentally rethink how we pay for college in this country.

I'm asking you to speak out as well.

Stand with me today -- tell Congress you support real action to make college more affordable for American families.

Right now, the average student who takes out loans to pay for school graduates with more than $26,000 in debt. Something's got to change -- it's not enough just to tinker around the edges. We've got to shake up the current system.

My plan won't be popular with everybody, especially those who profit from the way things are. But we owe it to our students to make sure that our colleges are working for them.

While we'll need Congress' help to get some of this done, my administration will continue to do what we can to make sure quality, affordable higher education is in reach for millions more young Americans.

So far, we've taken some good steps forward. We've published college scorecards to ensure that families are getting the best information as they pick a school, doubled funding for Pell grants, and established a college tax credit. And thanks to the income-based repayment program, which caps student loan payments based on new graduates' incomes, 1.6 million young Americans can keep more money in their pockets.

But there's much more we can and should do -- this is key to creating a better bargain for the middle class.

That's something I've talked a lot about -- every day, I think about what I can do to live up to it.

That's why I'm calling on Congress to tackle rising tuition costs and pass reforms, so families can get a better bargain when it comes to getting a world-class education.

I'm counting on OFA supporters to be part of this fight. Not much gets done in Washington without the voices of people like you.

Add your name:

Thanks,

Barack
