No, Iran is not allowed to inspect itself
The Hill // Mark Hibbs and Thomas Shea

As any landmark vote by a deeply divided United States Congress nears, stretching the truth to win hearts and minds is politics as usual. But what's being said and published in some quarters about how the Iran nuclear deal would be implemented has now spun out of control.

A better deal for Iran
The Hill // Dalia Dassa Kaye

It is critical for lawmakers to understand there will be serious consequences for rejecting the Iran deal. And those consequences look a lot worse for the United States and its partners than for Iran.

We're now averaging more than one mass shooting per day in 2015
The Washington Post // Christopher Ingraham

There's no easy fix to gun violence in this country. As gun rights proponents are quick to point out, municipalities with strict gun laws, like Chicago and D.C., see more than their fair share of gun crime. But it's nevertheless a fact that the level of gun violence we see in the U.S. is like nothing seen in other wealthy Western nations.

Warming Seas Rising Faster Than Predicted, NASA Scientists Say
BloombergBusiness // Alex Nussbaum

Global sea levels are rising faster than predicted as a result of warming temperatures driven by burning fossil fuels, according to researchers who now say an increase of at least 3 feet (1 meter) is likely "unavoidable."

Obamacare's Accountable Medicare Effort Saves Another $400M
Forbes // Bruce Japsen

A rapidly expanding healthcare delivery system that rewards doctors and hospitals for working together to improve quality reaped $411 million in savings for the Medicare health insurance program for the elderly, the Obama administration said.

Diane, can we count on you?

DemocratsJoin us.
Diane,

There are moments during a campaign when you just have to laugh. When Donald Trump first entered the race for the Republican nomination -- via escalator -- it certainly helped keep us entertained here at the DNC.

But what some people thought was a sideshow has turned into the main event pretty quickly. And there's nothing funny about the policies Trump has been pushing -- most notably, his extreme and offensive thoughts about immigration that have now made him the standard bearer for the Republican Party.

Now Donald Trump is touting the fact that he won the Iowa corn kernel poll, which tracks fairgoers' top choices for each party's presidential contender. And okay, yes -- this poll is just for fun and totally unscientific, but there is a kernel of truth to it (as corny as it is): Donald Trump is leading the Republican field and showing no signs of slowing down.

Iowa corn kernel poll -- load image

Luckily, there's time before the Iowa caucus in February, but even if Trump doesn't win the state or become the eventual Republican nominee, his wild rhetoric is having a very real impact on the field. Each of the 17 Republicans running for president is trying to trump the others with out-of-touch, irresponsible positions.

This all goes to show just how important it is that we do everything we can to make sure Democrats have what it takes to win in 2016. Diane, can we count on your support?

Diane, keep fighting for equality for all:

DemocratsJoin us.
Diane --

Ninety-five years ago today, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was adopted, officially granting women the right to vote. Women's Equality Day is an opportunity to celebrate that important milestone that made the voices of so many more Americans heard.

Winning the hard-fought battle for the ballot opened the door to more victories in ensuring our full and equal participation as citizens. Today, I am proud to serve alongside a historic number of women in the 114th Congress. And Democratic women's voices, especially, are being heard louder than ever: My colleagues are on the front line when it comes to fighting for access to health services, ending sexual assault on college campuses and in the military, and a range of economic policies that will benefit women and families.

In 2012, Democratic women voters played a huge role in re-electing President Obama and ensuring that we had an ally in the White House who would protect the progress we've made. Women voters will make the difference in 2016, too, and this anniversary reminds us that the key to expanding opportunities for women lies at the ballot box.

Diane, working to elect leaders who share our priorities is one of the most important things we do as Americans. I am proud that the Democratic Party is the party of equal opportunity for men and women, from fighting for paycheck fairness to ensuring the rights of women to make our own healthcare decisions.

Say you're with me to make sure we elect Democrats in 2016 who will fight for these values:

Thank you for standing with us today, and every day.

Stand up for women's rights

Diane --

Ninety-five years ago, the 19th Amendment was certified to guarantee the right to vote for women. Today, we celebrate Women's Equality Day in honor of that milestone.

But today is also a day to reflect on how far we still have to go -- in the spirit of those women who protested and organized for a fundamental right nearly a century ago, we must do more to ensure equality for all women.

That means equal pay for equal work, and it means freedom in reproductive health choices. It also means that working women (and men) should have a right to paid sick days and better family leave, because nobody should have to choose between keeping their job and caring for a sick child or parent.

I've been fighting for these issues since I took office -- and OFA is organizing around them right now. Add your name to join them in standing up for women's rights.

When I was a child, my grandmother became one of the first female bank vice presidents in Hawaii. She was a pioneer.

And today we're seeing more and more firsts. Women are Army Rangers. They're NFL coaches, and referees. And the 114th Congress includes more than 100 women for the very first time.

That's visible progress, and it's worth celebrating. But I refuse to stop fighting now -- for the sake of my daughters and yours, we must do better to make sure women are respected and treated equally.

The path toward that future is going to be built by organizers like you -- join OFA or do whatever you can to say you'll fight for it:

Thanks,

Barack Obama

Truth Team Digest: The economy, paid-leave, Iran, and more

Op-Ed: How diplomacy can prevent a nuclear Iran
The Dallas Morning News // Barack Obama

Here's my bottom line: If we are committed to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, the choice we ultimately face is between a diplomatic solution and what would likely become another war in the Middle East in the near future. The idea that we can get a better deal by talking tough or squeezing Iran into submission with more sanctions is simply not realistic.

Iran deal opponents now have their "death panels" lie, and it's a whopper
Vox // Max Fisher

The debate over the Iran nuclear deal may now have its own version of "death panels," a provision that is both a point of overwhelming criticism and largely fictitious.

Good News on U.S. Economy is Getting Lost
The New York Times // Albert R. Hunt (Bloomberg View)

If you believe the political discussion, from left and right, the American economy is in dreadful shape, beset by rampant joblessness and too much debt. Actually, the economy has been steadily, if too slowly, improving.

Obama's paid-leave policies make progress in cities
USA TODAY // Gregory Korte

In his State of the Union Address in January, President Obama said he would go around Congress if necessary and push states to adopt paid-leave laws. Eight months later, only one state -- Oregon -- has passed such a law. But 17 cities have.
