"Voter fraud"

We were beaten, bloodied, and killed for the right to vote - now this administration is threatening our legacy.
Organizing for Action
Diane --

54 years sounds like a long time ago -- but in the context of our movement, it's only a blink.

It's only been 54 years since I marched with my brothers and sisters from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.

It's only been 54 years since we were jailed, beaten, and killed for trying to cast a vote. For trying to participate in democracy, in the United States of America.

This isn't ancient history. It's the experience of my life.

Just a few decades ago, we changed the course of history and helped pave the way for the Voting Rights Act -- but yesterday, this administration put that legacy under attack.

They signed an executive order to start a commission investigating almost non-existent "voter fraud." It's nothing more than a cover for them to threaten our progress -- with registration barriers, elimination of early and absentee voting, and rules that obstruct an inclusive democracy.

We cannot let this happen.

President Obama likes to say that the arc of the moral universe doesn't bend on its own -- we have to reach up and pull it towards justice ourselves. On that day 54 years ago, we gave it a mighty pull. We can't let it snap back.

Every one of us, right now, has a responsibility to keep pulling on that arc -- to protect and defend our right to vote. Say you'll join OFA in this fight:

Thank you,

Congressman John Lewis

An immigration policy with heart?

The administration's statement this week has caused uncertainty for DREAMers with DACA status.
Organizing for Action
Diane --

When this administration took office, they said they would approach their immigration policy with "a lot of heart." Well, something happened this week that puts that claim to the test. Let me explain:

Over the past several years, OFA supporters, President Obama, and many in Congress have fought to make our nation's broken immigration system more fair. We fought especially hard for a group of undocumented immigrants known as "DREAMers" -- young people who were brought to this country as children through no fault of their own.

DREAMers are Americans in every way except on paper. That's exactly why President Obama instituted the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which provided eligible individuals who represent no national security or public safety risk the opportunity to apply for protected status to stay in America.

Now, pivoting back to the current situation: In January, the new administration insisted that DREAMers "shouldn't be very worried" about losing their protected status. But then, this week, they released a statement that said that the temporary relief from deportation DREAMers received through the DACA program "may be revoked at any time."

Since DACA was implemented, more than 750,000 young people have earned this protected status -- it allowed them to pursue college degrees, serve in the military, and hold jobs without the constant threat of being deported. But the administration's stance strips them of that peace of mind.

This is not who we are. We pull strength from our diversity and take pride in our compassion -- add your name with OFA and say you'll stand up for those core values:

It's those darn unicorns again

Here's the thing about unicorns. While it would be great if they were real, their existence is firmly in the realm of fantasy.
Organizing for Action
Diane --

Here's the thing about unicorns. While it would be great if they were real, their existence is firmly in the realm of fantasy.

Seriously. There are no unicorns. That's just another fact on the list of things that just aren't worth debating.

Here's one more thing that's no longer up for debate: Climate change is real, and we ought to be doing something to fight it -- fast.

Unfortunately, today the new administration is ordering the Environmental Protection Agency -- which is now headed by a climate change denier -- to start dismantling the Clean Power Plan. That's right, the plan that was hailed as the single biggest step ever taken by an American president to fight climate change when President Obama instituted it.

Climate change is already causing serious damage around the world in the form of more frequent and extreme weather events. Stand up against the new administration's rollbacks of crucial climate legislation and standards.

And it still remains unclear whether the new administration will pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement. This is the groundbreaking, historic, watershed agreement that nearly every country in the world signed because of American leadership. Because of our efforts, we were finally able to get countries like China and India on board to fight climate change. Pulling out of this agreement would be a major and devastating step backward in the fight against climate change.

Let's be clear -- the idea that we don't need crucial policies like the Clean Power Plan and the Paris Agreement is as crazy as a one-horned horse.

We've made incredible progress on climate change over the last few years. Wind and solar power are booming and creating hundreds of thousands of American jobs. Carbon pollution has fallen even as the economy has grown -- while improving public health at the same time. America has been seen as a leader around the world in pushing for solutions to climate change. We didn't get this far by pretending it didn't exist.

Ninety-seven percent of climate scientists agree that climate change is real. We have real policies in place to slow it, and ultimately defeat it -- and create a future powered by clean energy to boot -- but only if we fight for them.

The outcome of this fight is critical for our future. Say you'll do your part to help.

Hi there, Diane --

The Trump administration's Russia scandal reached a fever pitch this week when it was reported that Attorney General Jeff Sessions lied under oath about his contacts with Russia.

This story is far from over. Here's DNC War Room Director Zac Petkanas with an overview of what we know, and what we still need to find out:

What we know now -- load image

If you aren't already, make sure to follow @TheDemocrats on Twitter and the Democratic Party on Facebook for all the latest updates on Trump, Russia, and everything else the GOP is trying to get away with. Democrats are doing everything we can to hold them accountable -- and we're counting on supporters like you to keep the pressure on by getting the word out and encouraging your friends to do the same.

Thanks -- and talk soon!

Hi there, Diane --

Last night, Donald Trump addressed a joint session of Congress for the first time.

After one very long, very messy month into his presidency, he called last night's address a "reset." Sorry, Donald. You may get as many mulligans as you want during your weekly golf trips to Mar-a-Lago, but you can't take one here.

Speeches and reality are two different things, and no matter how many Republican pundits try to pretend that because his "tone" has changed, he'll suddenly start acting presidential, we know better.

We know that large parts of his speech couldn't pass a basic fact check:

This 'mess' -- load image

We also know that he offered no alternative plan to improve health care for Americans -- he just kicked the can to Congress:

They don't have a plan, they just hate ours -- load image

They're not listening -- load image

Democrats in Congress and supporters like you are going to be front and center to hold Trump accountable as he makes more promises he can't keep -- and make sure Republicans have to answer for them:

Cool Paul -- load image

As always, keep tweeting, sharing, and otherwise getting the word out about what a disaster Trump and the rest of the GOP are for our country.

Thanks -- and talk soon!

ADD YOUR NAME: No Supreme Court confirmation during Trump's campaign

Trump is back on the campaign trail.
DemocratsJoin us.
Trump held his first re-election campaign rally yesterday. Tell Senate Republicans to play by their own rules and refuse to confirm his Supreme Court nominee during the campaign.

Diane, let's take a stroll down memory lane.

Remember Merrick Garland -- President Obama's Supreme Court nominee who Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans stridently refused to confirm because of a totally fabricated notion that the Senate shouldn't confirm Supreme Court nominees during a presidential campaign?

Well, earlier this month Donald Trump picked Neil Gorsuch -- an ultra-conservative, anti-consumer, pro-business judge -- as his nominee to fill Merrick Garland's stolen Supreme Court seat. But yesterday, only 29 days into his presidency, Donald Trump held his first campaign rally for his 2020 re-election bid.

So, according to Mitch McConnell's standards, the Senate cannot and should not confirm Gorsuch to the Supreme Court because we are officially in campaign season.

Neil Gorsuch's nomination should be treated with the same respect that Republicans gave Merrick Garland -- it's only fair that Mitch McConnell play by his own rules.

Add your name: demand that no nominee be confirmed to the Supreme Court during Trump's re-election campaign:

Hi there, Diane --

After some dispiriting losses this week, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer had a pep talk for all of us who have been fighting back against Donald Trump and his disastrous Cabinet picks:

"We didn't win with Betsy DeVos, because only two Republicans would cross over, but everyone now is going to watch her like a hawk when she tries to mess with public education.

We didn't win with Jeff Sessions, but he's going to be watched like a hawk when he deals with immigration and voting rights and civil rights because his record has been made so clear.

That will probably limit them in some of the bad things they can do. It certainly will encourage us to go after them in every way when they do those things."

And Diane, Factivists are going to be on the front lines holding them accountable.

Whether it's at the ballot box:

Bye -- load image

Or at a town hall:

Keep showing up -- load image

Or continuing to call your senators to vote "no" this week on one of Trump's most egregiously unqualified, anti-worker nominees, Andy Puzder:

Puzder is a problem -- load image

You're really making a difference:

We're only three weeks into Donald Trump's presidency, and it's clear that this is going to be an endurance test for all of us looking to stop this administration from doing all the damage it's capable of. Keep recharging your batteries because our resistance is working -- but it's going to be a marathon, not a sprint:

Persist -- load image

BREAKING: Trump announces Supreme Court nominee

Meet Trump's Supreme Court nominee:
DemocratsJoin us.
Trump just nominated ultra-conservative Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Add your name: tell the Senate to reject Judge Gorsuch.

Diane --

Judge Neil Gorsuch, Donald Trump's newly-revealed Supreme Court nominee, has a legal history that shows a deep sympathy for corporate interests and an apparent disdain for workers.

Donald wants to put Judge Gorsuch in the Supreme Court seat the GOP stole from President Obama. Add your name to tell the Senate to reject his nomination.

As an attorney, Judge Gorsuch routinely represented big businesses in class action lawsuits. As a judge on the Tenth Circuit, he wrote a concurring opinion in Hobby Lobby v. Sebelius -- the case that allowed employers to deny basic health care coverage to women by ruling the Affordable Care Act's contraceptive mandate was unconstitutional. He upheld a decision that denied long-term insurance benefits to a worker who sustained a work-related injury that required spinal surgery. He even dissented from a ruling in favor of a truck driver whose employer illegally fired him for abandoning a trailer with locked brakes -- so he wouldn't freeze to death.

And as a member of the ultra-conservative "Federalist Society," Gorsuch believes in severely restricting the power that federal agencies like the EPA have to regulate businesses.

It's not hard to see why Trump loves him so much -- but from where we're sitting, Diane, Judge Gorsuch has no business on the Supreme Court bench. Add your name if you agree.

Thanks so much,

Let's get to work.

Before our midnight deadline, pitch in $10 or more to show you're part of the movement against Trump and the GOP -- and we'll send you an Official Democratic Membership Card:

Declaring war on the media, beginning to repeal Obamacare, reinstating the global gag rule that cuts funding from NGOs that even mention abortion, moving forward with the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines, ordering construction of his signature border wall, ordering a ban on Muslims entering this country -- this administration is shaping up to be the most dangerous administration in history. And we're only a little over a week in, Diane.

Donald and his Republican pals in Congress are holding true to their campaign promise to undo all of the progress we achieved under President Obama, and then some. So we are going to have to make sure that we are doing everything we can to fight back as hard as possible. And the way that this administration is going, it'll take each of us being all-in.

Our end-of-month deadline is tonight at midnight. How much we raise between now and then will determine how we can fight back against this administration in its first 100 days -- it's that simple. Will you pitch in $10 now to make sure that we're able to take on Trump and the GOP every single day? We'll send you your Official Democratic Membership Card in the mail when you do.

Hi there, Diane --

Throughout the campaign, Republicans and Trump supporters tried to reassure us that he should be taken seriously, but not literally. We're now one week into his presidency, and he has followed through on nearly every outlandish, offensive, and un-American idea he peddled on the campaign trail:

This will never be normal -- load image

From his Muslim ban:

There is so much wrong with this -- load image

To an extreme crackdown on immigration:

Democrats are standing up -- load image

He's gone above and beyond even what we thought was possible, launching a war on science:

Ugh -- load image

And on totally unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud:

This is bad-- load image

From day one, the Trump administration has shown a willingness to mislead the American people when the facts are inconvenient to them:

What we're up against-- load image

That's why your job as a Factivist is more important than ever, Diane. Trump and his team are working every day to discredit everyone from the media to the National Park Service -- anyone who tries to hold them accountable. But we're not going to stop.
