Add your name - we'll personally deliver this petition

Organizing for Action
Diane --

I wrote you last week after 45 senators sided with the gun lobby and voted against expanding background checks for gun sales.

I said we weren't going to forget -- and that we weren't going to stop fighting until we get the job done.

I'm writing today to follow through on that.

Next week, we'll deliver an OFA petition to Congress demanding that they take common-sense action to reduce gun violence.

But it'll only be as powerful as the number of supporters behind it.

Please take a minute and add your name to this petition right now.

In politics, there are two kinds of people: Those who say they're going to do something, and those who actually do it.

I have no doubt about which of those groups OFA supporters are in.

But if we want Congress to get serious about reducing gun violence, and if we don't want to see the fire behind this issue slip away, we are the ones who have to keep it going.

We choose who represents us in Congress -- and what the constituents want is something that no politician can afford to ignore.

That's why your voice is such an important part of this fight. People like me can talk all we want, but your representatives want to hear from you.

This letter will go to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker John Boehner, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on behalf of OFA next week.

Make sure your name is on it:

Embarrassing video:

Organizing for Action
Diane --

Right now, way too many lawmakers in Washington flat-out refuse to face the facts when it comes to climate change.

We're never going to make real progress on this issue unless members of Congress get serious. Instead, some of them have made a habit of publicly mocking it.

We thought it was time to call them out for denying what's basic science.

Watch this embarrassing video of climate deniers in Congress -- and say you're ready to help hold them accountable:

Denying climate change keeps us from finding a solution. Watch this.

The science matters in this.

That's the message way too many people in Washington need to hear right now.

In 2011, there were 240 members of Congress who voted to say that climate change is a hoax.

Most of them are still around today, and they're getting away with it -- some of them are actually proud of it. They think the whole debate is pretty funny.

If we want to make progress on climate change, we need everyone in Congress on board for a solution. It's our job to show them there's a price to pay for being a climate denier.

Take a look at this video and join the fight:

Get ready -- more on this coming soon.

Thanks,

Jon

What do you have to say to Congress?

Organizing for Action
Diane --

Yesterday, 45 senators chose to ignore their constituents and stand with the gun lobby.

And because of Senate rules, this minority was able to stand in the way of a bipartisan measure to expand background checks for gun sales.

A lot of people are reading the headlines today and wondering how these senators had the nerve to get up there -- right in front of victims' families from Newtown -- and cast that vote against something that more than 90 percent of Americans support. I'm one of them.

Those senators made a cynical calculation that, at the end of the day, the gun lobby would be louder and stronger than we are.

Yesterday was just round one. We will keep fighting.

If you're one of the millions of Americans who care deeply about preventing gun violence, you need to show it today.

Add your name -- tell Congress you're not going to back down now until they pass a common-sense gun violence prevention bill.

Here's where we go from here:

The senators on both sides of the aisle who stood up to the pressure and cast tough votes to do the right thing -- they're going to know that OFA supporters are going to get their backs.

And those senators who decided that not crossing the gun lobby was more important than making our kids and communities safer -- OFA supporters will call them out and hold them accountable to their constituents.

The special interests have been at this longer, and they can do a real good job at scaring people by distorting the facts -- they think we'll go away quietly.

But there are so many more of us than there are of them. And as long as you don't give up, we're going to keep fighting, and someday soon, we will win.

Add your name right now to say you're going to keep fighting -- for the families of Newtown, Aurora, Tucson, Chicago, and the thousands of other communities that have been torn apart by gun violence:

http://my.barackobama.com/Keep-Fighting

Thank you for what you're doing. More soon,

Jon

The Senate could vote today - pick up the phone

Organizing for Action
Diane --

The Senate is expected to vote today on expanding background checks for gun sales -- a measure that would go a long way toward reducing gun violence and making our communities safer.

Our senators are debating right now, and we expect the vote to be very close -- now is the time to speak up.

Can you pick up the phone right now and call the Senate?

It only takes a few minutes of your time to make your voice heard. According to our records, here's who you should call in Virginia:

     Senator Timothy Kaine -- (202) 224-4024
     Senator Mark Warner -- (202) 224-2023

Then, make sure you report back on how it went.

If you need help, here's a suggestion on what you can say:

I'm a constituent and I'm calling to thank my senator for standing with the people of Virginia by supporting expanded background checks and gun violence prevention legislation that will keep our communities and families safer.

Make sure to tell your senator where you're from. And if you'd like, let them know your reason for taking action on gun violence. Maybe you have a friend or a family member who's been affected by gun violence, or maybe you were moved to stand up after the shooting in Newtown, or Tucson, or Virginia Tech. Whatever your reason, your passion will come through and that will make a difference.

These are common-sense reforms that will actually save lives and make our communities safer. If we want the Senate to pass a bill to reduce gun violence, we have to speak up -- the special-interest groups on the other side are already well represented in this debate.

Our senators need to know their constituents are demanding action -- and that, if they stand up to the special interests, we'll be right there fighting alongside them.

After you're done, let us know how it went here:

http://my.barackobama.com/Senate-Calls-Report-Back

Thanks for being a part of this.

Now start calling.

P.S. -- If the above information doesn't seem right, call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your senators. And, as always, report back on how your call went.

Pledge to call the Senate on Tuesday

Organizing for Action
Diane --

This week, the U.S. Senate is getting ready to vote on a bill that would go a long way toward preventing gun violence and making our communities safer.

That's because, in the wake of tragedies like the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, people like you spoke out to demand action from Congress.

We cannot let up on our senators -- not when we've come this far. This Tuesday, April 16th, we're holding a National Call Day to make sure the voices of ordinary Americans are heard in this debate.

You can get involved from wherever you are. All you have to do is pledge to call your senators on Tuesday.

We'll follow up with their contact information and the resources you need to get it done.

All across the country, OFA supporters and our allies will be doing the same thing -- calling their senators and letting them know that we haven't forgotten about the toll gun violence is taking on our families and our communities.

If we do our jobs right, anyone near a U.S. Senate office on Tuesday will know exactly the kind of passion that's out there to do something about gun violence in this country.

Pledge to call your senator on Tuesday and join the groundswell of voices demanding action from Congress:

http://my.barackobama.com/National-Call-Day-Pledge

Thanks. More to come.

Decades in the making:

Diane --

Very soon, comprehensive immigration reform will be introduced -- and could be passed -- in Congress.

Passing immigration reform is something that has been years, even decades, in the making. If legislators in both parties can put aside political posturing and summon the courage to do the right thing, we will make history together.

It's up to you and me to make sure our lawmakers find that courage -- and that they know if they step up and fix our broken system, we'll get their backs.

This is our moment -- join the grassroots effort to help pass comprehensive immigration reform.

President Obama and a growing number of bipartisan lawmakers have laid the framework for the path forward on immigration. They've identified three things we need to do right away:

We need to strengthen border security, streamline the legal immigration process so law-abiding companies can get the workers they need, and create an earned path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the shadows.

These are tough issues for politicians to wrestle with. But for myself and for millions of our friends and neighbors, immigration isn't just political -- it's intensely personal.

My grandma came to the United States as an orphan from Mexico. She never made it past the fourth grade -- she had to drop out of school to work and support her family. As an adult, she scraped by, working hard to give my mother a shot, so that my mother could give my brother and me an even better one.

People like my grandma -- men and women in all corners of the United States, of all ages and origins -- have helped build this country.

They deserve a system that works -- and our country's economy depends on it.

We know what's broken, and we know how to fix it.

Say you're ready to fight for immigration reform. Add your name today:

http://my.barackobama.com/Support-Immigration-Reform

America is watching -- let's get this done.

Reporting back: Preventing gun violence Day of Action

Organizing for Action
Diane --

If Thursday was any indication, the NRA and the rest of the gun lobby better watch out: Last week's Day to Demand Action to prevent gun violence showed just how much support there is for common-sense legislation like universal background checks.

Here's a quick report back:

-- Grassroots volunteers held more than 130 events across the country with thousands in attendance, from Tucson to West Palm Beach to Portsmouth.

-- Supporters who couldn't make it spoke out online: The hashtag #DemandAction was the #1 trending topic nationally on Twitter, and our top Facebook post received more than 116,000 likes and 23,000 shares on Thursday alone.

-- Our volunteer-led events received local and national media coverage on news outlets across the country, including CNN, Fox News, and hundreds of local ABC, NBC, and CBS affiliates.

Members of Congress were back in their home districts last week, and I guarantee they heard our voices.

Whether they do the right thing and pass legislation 92 percent of Americans support -- or cave to the powerful gun lobby -- depends on what we do next.

Add your name to the hundreds of thousands of Americans and OFA supporters demanding action to prevent gun violence:

http://my.barackobama.com/Fight-to-Reduce-Gun-Violence

We started a drumbeat last Thursday, and as long as we don't stop now, our representatives in Congress will have no choice but to act.

Thanks for being part of this fight.
