Diane, Republicans just got called out for their gerrymandering in Kansas! Here's what a state district court had to say about the congressional map that legislative Republicans enacted over the veto of Democratic Governor Laura Kelly:

"[The map] is also unconstitutional on the independent and distinct ground that it dilutes minority votes in violation of the Kansas Constitution's equal rights and political power clauses."

Every win must be celebrated because redistricting is a state-by-state, case-by-case, and dollar-by-dollar battle between fair map advocates and map manipulators.

This is a court battle that can still impact the 2022 midterm map, and that's one reason why our affiliate, the National Redistricting Foundation, has supported the voters that won this case.

Here’s what President Obama and A.G. Holder have said about Republican tactics this cycle:

Diane -- President Obama and A.G. Holder have been well prepped on the Republican redistricting strategy and how it will influence the midterm elections, but they want to make sure you're kept up to date as well.

First A.G. Holder reflected:

"We know Republicans have proven time and again they will do whatever It takes in these states and elsewhere to preserve partisan gerrymandering so they can lock in their own power." -- Eric H. Holder, Jr.

And then President Obama cautioned:

President Barack Obama shared a message

Diane,

A few weeks ago, President Obama shared a message with the fair redistricting movement. He told us that we can't stop fighting now:

"[We have] a lot to be proud of – but there's so much left to do. Even though the initial map drawing is almost finished, a few legislatures will likely need to redraw maps after the midterms. And as we've seen, some redistricting lawsuits can carry on for years."

That's not all. Unfortunately, Republicans are getting desperate to keep the maps gerrymandered, and are playing even dirtier than before.
