BREAKING: Trump announces Supreme Court nominee

Meet Trump's Supreme Court nominee:
DemocratsJoin us.
Trump just nominated ultra-conservative Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Add your name: tell the Senate to reject Judge Gorsuch.

Diane --

Judge Neil Gorsuch, Donald Trump's newly-revealed Supreme Court nominee, has a legal history that shows a deep sympathy for corporate interests and an apparent disdain for workers.

Donald wants to put Judge Gorsuch in the Supreme Court seat the GOP stole from President Obama. Add your name to tell the Senate to reject his nomination.

As an attorney, Judge Gorsuch routinely represented big businesses in class action lawsuits. As a judge on the Tenth Circuit, he wrote a concurring opinion in Hobby Lobby v. Sebelius -- the case that allowed employers to deny basic health care coverage to women by ruling the Affordable Care Act's contraceptive mandate was unconstitutional. He upheld a decision that denied long-term insurance benefits to a worker who sustained a work-related injury that required spinal surgery. He even dissented from a ruling in favor of a truck driver whose employer illegally fired him for abandoning a trailer with locked brakes -- so he wouldn't freeze to death.

And as a member of the ultra-conservative "Federalist Society," Gorsuch believes in severely restricting the power that federal agencies like the EPA have to regulate businesses.

It's not hard to see why Trump loves him so much -- but from where we're sitting, Diane, Judge Gorsuch has no business on the Supreme Court bench. Add your name if you agree.

Thanks so much,

re: the most dangerous administration in history

Let's get to work.
DemocratsJoin us.
Before our midnight deadline, pitch in $10 or more to show you're part of the movement against Trump and the GOP -- and we'll send you an Official Democratic Membership Card:

Declaring war on the media, beginning to repeal Obamacare, reinstating the global gag rule that cuts funding from NGOs that even mention abortion, moving forward with the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines, ordering construction of his signature border wall, ordering a ban on Muslims entering this country -- this administration is shaping up to be the most dangerous administration in history. And we're only a little over a week in, Diane.

Donald and his Republican pals in Congress are holding true to their campaign promise to undo all of the progress we achieved under President Obama, and then some. So we are going to have to make sure that we are doing everything we can to fight back as hard as possible. And the way that this administration is going, it'll take each of us being all-in.

Our end-of-month deadline is tonight at midnight. How much we raise between now and then will determine how we can fight back against this administration in its first 100 days -- it's that simple. Will you pitch in $10 now to make sure that we're able to take on Trump and the GOP every single day? We'll send you your Official Democratic Membership Card in the mail when you do.

If you've saved your payment information, your donation will go through immediately.

Seriously and literally

We still have an important job to do
Factivists
Holding Donald Trump, his administration, and the rest of the GOP accountable is one of the most important parts of our work.

Become a Factivist today to get the latest information about what they're up to, then forward these emails to your friends and family to keep them in the loop, too.

Hi there, Diane --

Throughout the campaign, Republicans and Trump supporters tried to reassure us that he should be taken seriously, but not literally. We're now one week into his presidency, and he has followed through on nearly every outlandish, offensive, and un-American idea he peddled on the campaign trail:

This will never be normal -- load image

From his Muslim ban:

There is so much wrong with this -- load image

To an extreme crackdown on immigration:

Democrats are standing up -- load image

He's gone above and beyond even what we thought was possible, launching a war on science:

Ugh -- load image

And on totally unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud:

This is bad-- load image

From day one, the Trump administration has shown a willingness to mislead the American people when the facts are inconvenient to them:

What we're up against-- load image

That's why your job as a Factivist is more important than ever, Diane. Trump and his team are working every day to discredit everyone from the media to the National Park Service -- anyone who tries to hold them accountable. But we're not going to stop. Keep sharing, tweeting, and otherwise getting the word out about what this administration is doing and what we as Democrats can do to stop them.

Thanks for standing with us. Talk soon,

Nobody can prepare for this, Diane

Help me defend the ACA
Read why the Affordable Care Act matters to Adam*, and then say you're in to defend it:

Diane --

It's hard to be totally prepared to have your first child, but I was determined to do my best. My partner and I were responsible -- we saved, we planned, we made checklists, we called our insurance company to make sure our daughter would be insured from the moment she entered the world.

What we didn't plan for was for Maria to be born at 27 weeks and have to spend 7 weeks in the NICU.

But when that happened, I made the dreaded call to my insurance company to make sure that we weren't bankrupt when it was time to take our little girl home. And I was told that she wouldn't be covered because being born premature was considered a pre-existing condition.

A child, who had done nothing but come into the world early, was considered by insurance companies as nothing more than a liability. The Affordable Care Act was still fairly new when she was born, but I knew they could not deny my daughter coverage for pre-existing conditions -- so I called back at least eight or nine times until they finally agreed to provide coverage for her. It was a weight lifted off of our shoulders while we waited for her brain scans to come back to see if she had any brain damage from having been born prematurely.

Thanks to the ACA, Maria is now thriving in kindergarten. She is smart, funny, witty -- and truly the light of our lives. I cannot thank President Obama enough for giving our daughter a fighting chance. I can't even imagine how differently things could have gone had she not have had health insurance.

We are a middle-class family that works hard and expects no handouts from the government. Yet this situation could have deeply affected our daughter's life and destroyed our family's finances if not for the Affordable Care Act. Republicans talk a lot about the sanctity of life. But those same people are willing to let helpless babies potentially be denied lifesaving health care because being born early can somehow be considered a pre-existing condition -- and it just doesn't make any sense. It can happen to anyone, and it's only when it happens close to home when you realize how important access to lifesaving health care is.

Will you stand with me in the fight to save the Affordable Care Act for the millions of Americans who depend on it for access to health care?

Thank you,

Adam L.

We have to be relentless, Diane

Let's get to work.
DemocratsJoin us.
Pitch in today to help Democrats fight back against the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress.

Diane --

Donald Trump spent the first few days of his presidency focused on the most important issue facing our country:

The size of the crowd at his inauguration.

Fewer people attended Trump's swearing-in than either of President Obama's inaugurations. Far fewer people were in town for Friday's inauguration than for the Women's March on Washington on Saturday. Those are the facts.

Ultimately, inauguration crowd size doesn't really matter. But the way that Trump and his senior aides have reacted does. If Trump and his minions are so quick to lie about something as petty as crowd size, how can we trust them to tell the truth about anything?

When Donald went to CIA headquarters on Saturday and stood in front of the wall of 117 stars honoring fallen CIA officers, he didn't talk about the important work they did or their sacrifice. He didn't offer an apology for comparing the intelligence community to Nazis. He denounced media reports and boasted about his own, inflated sense of the size of his crowds.

In his first official press briefing, new White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer attacked reporters who accurately reported on the low turnout, presented the administration's preferred crowd photos (which obscured all the empty space), and then stormed off without answering any questions.

And when confronted with reality, Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway coined the Orwellian phrase "alternative facts" to describe the administration's lies about the inauguration crowds.

Diane, this is about far more than Donald Trump's bruised ego. He made the media one of the villains in his campaign, and now, with the full weight of the White House behind him, he is trying to discredit unbiased, objective reporting about his administration and reinvent lies as "alternative facts."

It's the first step to avoiding accountability. So we have to be relentless in calling out every lie and getting out the truth. Can we count on you to help fight back?

Before Donald takes the oath...

Let's get to work.
DemocratsJoin us.
Trump takes the Oath of Office today. Pitch in $10 or more to help Democrats fight back against his administration and Republicans in Congress, and we'll send you an Official 2017 Democratic Membership Card.

Diane --

Donald Trump is about to be inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States.

I can't tell you how I'll feel when that moment comes -- only that I know it will be a very different experience than the joy and pride I felt when we saw Barack Obama take his Oath of Office eight years ago.

But one thing I do know is that the fear or anger we all might be feeling can be powerful motivators to speak out louder and fight back harder than we have before. And one thing you can do to make a difference today is pitch in $10 or more to become a card-carrying member of the Democratic Party.

From showing up to rallies to protect health care to calling your senators to maybe even thinking about running for office yourself, we're seeing a silver lining come through -- and it's that people like you are more committed than ever to making a difference in their communities and are fighting back against Trump and the GOP in real, meaningful ways. It's downright inspiring, Diane.

And it's what I'm going to think about when it would otherwise be so easy to feel scared or sorry for ourselves today. We still have work to do and so much left to fight for. Pitch in $10 or more today to help us do it (and we'll send you an Official Democratic Membership Card in the mail).

Reflect on this:

Today, take a moment to think about how far we've come.
Organizing for Action
Diane --

Here's where we were eight years ago, when President Obama took office:

Our economy was rapidly heading toward a second Great Depression, as millions of Americans lost their homes and millions more saw their hard-earned savings vanish. We were losing hundreds of thousands of jobs each month.

Families across the country were being denied health coverage because they had previously gotten sick, or had already hit a limit on their care -- or the rapidly rising costs of care simply put it out of reach.

Our country's carbon pollution was projected to increase indefinitely.

And Americans didn't have the right to marry -- or even serve openly in the military -- just because of who they loved.

But it's always been true of the American spirit to rise to meet our challenges. Millions of people were inspired to fight for a better tomorrow -- and this is where we are today:

We bounced back from recession and have seen the longest streak of total job growth in U.S. history -- our economy has added 15.8 million private-sector jobs since February 2010.

Thanks to Obamacare, 20 million Americans have gained quality, affordable health care, as our country's uninsured rate has fallen to its lowest level ever.

We're leading on climate change. President Obama finalized the Clean Power Plan, the first-ever national carbon pollution standards for power plants. And just a few months ago, nearly 200 countries came together to adopt the Paris Climate Agreement, the most ambitious global climate agreement ever created.

Our country took a big step forward in the fight for equality for all, as LGBT Americans in all 50 states gained the right to marry who they love.

Let that sink in. We've made lasting strides toward a more perfect union. Together, we're capable of making big things happen.

But none of these achievements happened by themselves. They took work from people like you, who put in extra hours, had uncomfortable conversations, shared something that mattered, and chipped in whatever you could to make change a reality.

Now, more than ever, we can't afford to be cynical or wait on the sidelines. As the last eight years have shown, this work matters -- a lot. We've got to protect the progress we've made, and to keep fighting to make our country as tolerant, optimistic, and inclusive as it can be. It's up to us.

So today, take a moment to reflect on what we've achieved together -- and then gear up for the fights ahead.

If I can still count on you, Diane

I'm counting on you to fight back
Diane --

Before my administration comes to an end, I want to take a few moments to thank you for all the ways you've stood with me during my time in the White House.

Everything we've accomplished together these past eight years was only possible because of folks like you -- people who saw all of the challenges we faced, recognized that something needed to be done, and chose to be a part of the solution.

That dedication will be immeasurably important this year, and I hope I can count on you to stay committed. Because while 2017 will bring its challenges, the new year will also deliver a lot of opportunities for Democrats -- to build up new leaders in our party who will take the torch from me and help continue the work that we started together.

You've been there for me when I've needed you the most. I want to make sure the Democratic leaders of the future know that they can count on you just as much as I always have. So before I leave office tomorrow, can you pitch in $10 or more to help Democrats build for the future?
