Truth Team Digest: Equal pay, things scientists say, and more

Organizing for Action

Diane, you're one of the best messengers we've got in this movement. Here's some recommended reading that's easy to share -- the latest on climate change, Obamacare, and more.

Record Warmth 'Almost Certainly' Due to Humans, Scientists Say
Bloomberg // Alex Morales

The odds are "vanishingly small" that recent years of record warmth aren't due to human emissions of greenhouse gases, researchers in the U.S. and Germany said, adding to pressure on world governments to cut back on fossil fuel use.

Climate change responsible for super-charging winter storms, scientists say
The Guardian // Suzanne Goldenberg

The heavier storms of recent years -- snowfalls that shut down cities and brought heavy flooding to coastal areas of New England -- carried the imprints of climate change, as researchers get better at detecting the fingerprints of global warming, even from snow.

Key facts about the uninsured population
The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation

The ACA has helped to lower the number of uninsured Americans, but monitoring coverage changes, coverage affordability, and who is left out of coverage expansions is still important.

Asia-Pacific pact will boost US exports, wages, report says
The Hill // Vicki Needham

Implementation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) deal will raise U.S. annual incomes by $131 billion and annual exports by $357 billion -- a 9.1 percent increase -- in 2030, with similar gains to follow, according to the report, released Monday by Peter Petri and Michael Plummer with the Peterson Institute for International Economics.

Op-Ed: Why we must rethink solitary confinement
The Washington Post // President Obama

In our criminal justice system, the punishment should fit the crime -- and those who have served their time should leave prison ready to become productive members of society.

Op-Ed: Time to end the wage gap for women
USA Today // Lilly Ledbetter

The act that bears my name was a step forward for women, families, and the bedrock American values of fairness and equality. Yet on its seven-year anniversary, we still have a gender gap on wages.

I still need you, Diane

Diane --

It's been nearly six years since the Affordable Care Act was passed. Since then, nearly 18 million Americans have gained coverage, with millions more enjoying the expanded guarantees and protections that the law provides.

There's just no denying it anymore -- this law is working.

As its provisions have taken effect, America's uninsured rate has fallen to its lowest level since we began keeping records.

I'm proud of what we've accomplished so far. But there are still people out there going without coverage.

Diane, as long as I'm President, I'll keep fighting until everyone has the protection of affordable health care.

OFA is one of the groups committed to getting people covered -- and you can join Team Obamacare right now.

Nearly eight in 10 uninsured Americans eligible to enroll in 2016 marketplace coverage may qualify for financial assistance, so coverage might be more affordable than most people think. There's still time to enroll for coverage that starts this year -- but the deadline is January 31. We still need people who are willing to spread the word.

Say you'll be one of them -- join Team Obamacare:

Thanks,

Barack Obama

Diane, show your support for Obamacare

Diane --

Eight years ago when Barack was running for President, he made a promise to the American people that with your help, he would pass health care reform.

Barack kept that promise, and today, millions of Americans have the peace of mind that comes with quality, affordable health insurance, or are enjoying the additional protections that the law provides -- like free preventative care, no lifetime limits on coverage, and kids being allowed to stay on their parents' plans until they're 26.

OFA has played a critical role in making this law a success, so before the open enrollment period for the Obamacare marketplace closes, you can show your support by adding your name.

Diane, I don't want to ever go back to a time when people were kicked off their health insurance for reaching a lifetime cap or denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition.

Having health insurance ensures that those things can no longer happen. And today, when life throws us a curveball -- a child gets sick, someone in the family loses a job, or someone has a major injury -- because of the Affordable Care Act, we know we can get the care we need. Barack and I want every family to have that kind of security.

Obamacare is saving lives and giving millions of families peace of mind -- show your support for it today:

Thanks,

Michelle Obama

Truth Team Digest: The hottest year ever, the auto industry comeback, and more

Organizing for Action

Diane, you're one of the best messengers we've got in this movement. Here's some recommended reading that's easy to share -- the latest on climate change, the auto industry's comeback, and more.

Court won't block Obama's climate rule
The Hill // Timothy Cama

President Obama's landmark climate change rule for power plants can move forward while its opponents challenge it, a federal court ruled Thursday.

2015 Was Hottest Year in Recorded History, NASA and NOAA Say
The New York Times // Justin Gillis

Scientists reported Wednesday that 2015 was the hottest year in recorded history by far, breaking a record set only the year before -- a burst of heat that has continued into the new year and is roiling weather patterns all over the world.

A Safer World, Thanks to the Iran Deal
The New York Times // Editorial Board

Iran has delivered on its commitment under a 2015 agreement with the United States and other major powers to curb or eliminate the most dangerous elements of its nuclear program. The world is now safer for this.

Obama announces moratorium on new federal coal leases
The Washington Post // Joby Warrick and Juliet Eilperin

In his speech on Tuesday, Obama argued for decreasing reliance on fossil fuels as part of the larger effort to fight the causes of climate change. As Obama Takes Victory Lap Over Auto Industry Rescue, Here Are The Lessons Of The Bailout
Forbes // David Kiley

The decision to bail out General Motors and Chrysler, and aid their financing subsidiaries and suppliers through loan guarantees in 2009 in the teeth of the economic meltdown that gripped world markets, was hotly debated at the time and since. But given the 640,000 auto industry jobs created since then and the record sales by the industry in 2015, the President has room to crow.

Add your name if Barack can count on you

Diane --

Today, we've got just 363 days left to finish the work we started together seven years ago -- and Barack intends to use every last one of those days to keep expanding opportunity for every single American.

But if we want to continue this work and keep moving this country forward after Barack leaves office, we need to elect more Democrats who will protect and build on our progress. And we need everyone -- including you, Diane -- working together to make that happen.

So I'm asking you to make a commitment, Diane -- a commitment to continue supporting Barack and to help elect Democrats up and down the ballot in 2016.

Add your name if I can count you in:

http://my.democrats.org/Ready

As always, Diane, thank you. Thank you so much.

Michelle
