Diane, can we count on you?

DemocratsJoin us.
Diane,

There are moments during a campaign when you just have to laugh. When Donald Trump first entered the race for the Republican nomination -- via escalator -- it certainly helped keep us entertained here at the DNC.

But what some people thought was a sideshow has turned into the main event pretty quickly. And there's nothing funny about the policies Trump has been pushing -- most notably, his extreme and offensive thoughts about immigration that have now made him the standard bearer for the Republican Party.

Now Donald Trump is touting the fact that he won the Iowa corn kernel poll, which tracks fairgoers' top choices for each party's presidential contender. And okay, yes -- this poll is just for fun and totally unscientific, but there is a kernel of truth to it (as corny as it is): Donald Trump is leading the Republican field and showing no signs of slowing down.

Luckily, there's time before the Iowa caucus in February, but even if Trump doesn't win the state or become the eventual Republican nominee, his wild rhetoric is having a very real impact on the field. Each of the 17 Republicans running for president is trying to trump the others with out-of-touch, irresponsible positions.

This all goes to show just how important it is that we do everything we can to make sure Democrats have what it takes to win in 2016. Diane, can we count on your support?
