When I took over the DNC in 2005, our party was reeling from defeat. Republicans had control of the White House and both chambers of Congress. The day after Election Day in 2004, the New York Times ran a story headlined, "Baffled in Loss, Democrats Seek Road Forward." This should all sound familiar, because it's not that far off from what happened in 2016. But here's the thing: We made a huge comeback. Democrats took back control of the House and Senate in 2006, and then we elected Barack Obama to the White House in 2008. That didn't happen by accident -- it happened because we made unprecedented investments in all 50 states across the country, building up a party infrastructure that made sure we capitalized as much as possible from a surge of activism against an unpopular Republican president. We have a chance to do the same thing this year. That's why the DNC is investing in all 50 state parties so Democrats can win back power at every level in every ZIP code in this country. We have the chance to make historic gains in 2018 -- but the level of those gains could depend on what we raise between now and tomorrow's critical FEC deadline. There couldn't be a more important time to make your first donation of 2018. Chip in $3 before tomorrow's deadline to be a part of the Democratic Party's comeback this year. After you lose an election you have to take a good, long look at what went wrong -- and make changes if necessary. We did that in 2005, and it led to wins in the years to come. But our party got away from the 50-state approach, and we paid for it at the ballot box in 2010, 2014, and 2016. That's why the DNC is getting back to the basics this year. We are making critical investments in state parties and grassroots organizing, developing new tools and technology, and supporting candidates running in all 50 states. That's what it will take for us to win not just in November, but in 2020 and beyond, and I am counting on you to be a part of this fight. With only two months until Election Day, we have to come together now -- before tomorrow's deadline -- to support the organizing work to help Democrats win up and down the ballot. Now is the time to make your first donation of 2018. Be a part of the Democratic Party's comeback and make a $3 contribution before tomorrow's deadline. Thank you for your commitment to the Democratic Party. Howard Howard Dean Former DNC Chair 79th Governor of Vermont P.S. Labor Day marks the start of the final stretch of campaign season -- and tomorrow is the last deadline before then. Before our candidates enter their final sprint before this election, can you make an urgent donation of $3 to the Democratic Party? Thank you. |

How will you help, Diane?
Today is Women's Equality Day.
It's a day to reflect on those who helped us get here, and recognize the generations of fearless women who fought for a better America -- one where everyone is treated equally and has access to the ballot box, regardless of gender.
It's a day to celebrate how far we've come, as over the past few decades women have made strides in every facet of American life. Today, more Americans understand than ever before: Our country succeeds when women succeed.
Under President Obama, we made big strides: We passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. We established a White House task force to protect students from sexual assault.
We passed Obamacare -- and more women gained quality, affordable health care, as insurers were no longer allowed to charge them more because of their gender.
But we're not there yet -- and today is also a day to recognize how far we still have to go. I'm asking you, Diane: How will you help?
Even at this moment, in 2018, inequality and discrimination are still here:
- Women, on average, earn less than their male counterparts -- and for women of color, the disparity is even greater
- Outdated workplace policies make working parents choose between fulfilling their family responsibilities, and following the careers of their dreams
- Basic health care and contraceptive rights for women are under attack
So here's what we can do, Diane: Get involved before the midterms.
If you believe women deserve equal representation in Congress, volunteer from now until November for one of the many amazing women running for office in 2018.
If you believe women deserve equal pay, fight to make it happen -- organize with your friends to make sure your elected officials know how important this issue is.
And if you believe our country is better when women are given the same opportunities to succeed ... show up on November 6, 2018, and vote for candidates who believe that, too.
Let's keep tearing down barriers. Let's make sure women and girls have every opportunity to reach their potential. Let's get to work, right now:

Add your name: Wish President Obama happy birthday
My first job out of college was in 2007 working on Barack Obama's campaign for president -- so I might have been a little spoiled as far as having a great person to work for. My husband, Kyle, and I went on to work in President Obama's administration -- that's where we met, actually. Kyle worked in President Obama's White House until the very end of his second term, and just before his presidency came to an end, he invited us to the Oval Office to say thank you. Here's a photo! Here's the thing about that moment, though: Most people in President Obama's position wouldn't have done what he did. There wasn't much time left in his presidency -- he could have been doing literally anything in the world at that point. But even still, he took the time to let my husband and I know that he appreciated us. That meant the world to my family and me, and I'll never forget it. President Obama was a great leader for the American people because he brings that level of thoughtfulness to everything he does -- he's always thinking about others, whether it's considering how a policy decision will affect people or spending time with his girls. Today is his birthday, and I'd like to ask you to join me in showing him that we're thinking of him. Sign the card to wish President Obama a happy birthday: All my best, Amanda Amanda Brown Lierman Political and Organizing Director Democratic National Committee P.S. President Obama is a wonderful boss -- he's exceptionally kind, caring, and generous to the people he works with. It's his birthday today, and I hope you'll join me in wishing him a happy birthday. |

Will you sign President Obama's card?
Today, President Obama will celebrate his 57th birthday. I wanted to give you an opportunity to wish him a happy birthday, and let him know that you're fighting to elect Democrats across the country who will put our nation back on the right path. Today, with Trump and the GOP at the helm, our country is in chaos and the eight years we spent making progress under President Obama seems like ages ago. But as President Obama once said, "...progress will come in fits and starts. It's not always a straight line. It's not always a smooth path." History books will judge the actions we take today, and whether we act on the opportunities in front of us. There is a critical and urgent need to correct our nation's path. This year's midterm elections are our chance to elect Democrats to office who believe in the justice and equality that President Obama taught us to strive for. We know nothing happens by chance -- we must work for each and every victory. With only three months to go, we've got a lot of work to get done. Something exciting is happening across the country. There is momentum on our side, but it's up to you to turn the tremendous potential Democrats have for electoral victory in 2018 into a reality. I was honored to have served in President Obama's Cabinet and to have worked alongside him to level the playing field for every American. And I know how tough it is to see our progress undone. So I'm asking you to take action today. Celebrate President Obama's 57th birthday by letting him know that you're fighting to put our nation back on track by electing Democrats. Add your name to sign his card today. President Trump and Republicans in Congress have made it quite clear that they will stop at absolutely nothing in their attempts to undo all the progress we made under President Obama's leadership. So if you still care about protecting access to affordable health care, protecting our environment, ensuring equal pay for women and equal rights for the LGBTQ community, and passing commonsense gun laws, you must join the fight to elect Democrats up and down the ballot this year. I am not exaggerating when I say that the future of our country is on the line. We simply must do everything we can to set ourselves up for victory this year and beyond -- the costs are too high if we fail. Together we can help elect Democrats to office at every level, from the school board to the Senate. I'm inspired by our Democratic candidates stepping up to run for office -- and right now our party is supporting thousands of campaigns across the country through three important programs:
Take a moment to sign President Obama's birthday card to tell him you're committed to helping the DNC elect Democrats to office who believe in our shared Democratic values. This isn't just about the progress we made under President Obama -- it's about the future of our country. If I may borrow President Obama's words once more: "We should do everything we can to make sure this country lives up to our children's expectations." Thank you for joining the fight to elect Democrats across the country. All my best, Tom Tom Perez Chair Democratic National Committee P.S. President Obama's birthday is today -- which means time is running out to send him your well wishes. Add your name right now to sign President Obama's birthday card before it's too late! |

President Obama's note to you, Diane
On Monday afternoon, President Obama sent a note to OFA supporters.
Make sure to read it below, and know that the clock until November is already ticking. We're down to 97 days until the crucial midterms -- and every election, every ballot measure, every conversation matters.
Get involved and join Team '18 today.

Thanks,

From: Barack Obama
Subject: Join me in this final push, Diane
Diane --
There are just 99 days between now and November 6, 2018.
That's how long we have until these critical midterm elections -- until Americans go to the ballot box, and decide what kind of country we want to be.
We can choose leaders who don't answer to lobbyists, but to families. We can choose a politics built not on gerrymandering and voter suppression, but on fair representation and stronger voting rights. We can choose an economy that works not just for a shrinking few, but for everybody -- with better wages, more secure health insurance, and Medicaid expansion that covers more Americans.
Diane, that's up to you: How will you spend the next 99 days?
For eight years, we made great strides together.
We expanded health care to 20 million more Americans. We made sure insurance companies could no longer discriminate against women, or people with pre-existing conditions. We made big investments in clean energy, and reined in greed and recklessness on Wall Street.
November 6th is our chance to defend that progress -- and fight for so much more. Join Organizing for '18 and get to work today.
Diane, OFA's Team '18 is full of examples of everyday people who have become active, engaged citizens over the past few months:
Folks like Shelia, a grandmother from Georgia who started as an OFA Fellow in 2017. She just hosted a Team '18 House Party to get her neighbors involved in the fight against gerrymandering -- and she'll keep fighting for policies and candidates that leave a better world for her grandkids.
And Debra, who organized a Team '18 training in her Houston neighborhood -- rallying her friends to keep knocking on doors from now until November. And Andres, a filmmaker in California who is using his skills to tell powerful stories about immigrant families.
They inspire me every day -- and it's not too late to join them.
There is no action too small. Every election, every ballot measure, every conversation between now and November ... it all matters.
Make the next 99 days count as part of Team '18:
|
Thank you,
Barack Obama
44th President of the United States
