Robert Bruce -- Congress is expected to cast its final votes on historic Wall Street reform as soon as today. So much has happened in the past year that it's easy to forget how much OFA supporters have done to get to this point. In key districts around the country, we organized to win a 223-202 vote in the House last December. OFA supporters poured in nearly tens of thousands of calls to Capitol Hill offices the day before last month's vote to get it through the Senate. This is your bill -- the strongest and boldest overhaul of the financial system since the aftermath of the Great Depression. It's the change we fought the big banks to make -- and we've almost won. What happens before these final votes will determine if this once-in-a-generation legislation makes it to the President's desk. That's up to us. We need to make sure the champions in Congress who've worked with the President to pass this bill know we're supporting them -- and that those in opposition hear our call for reform. Tell your representatives you strongly support Wall Street reform -- and that they'll have your thanks if they do the same. Reform will increase security for all Americans by forcing credit card, mortgage companies, and predatory lenders to play by the rules instead of exploiting consumers with hidden fees and pages of fine print. It establishes a new, independent agency -- the Consumer Financial Protection Agency -- whose sole job is to protect consumers. And it ensures American taxpayers will never again be asked to bail out the big banks that are "too big to fail." But these changes will only happen if the President can sign it into law. We all need to get the bill to him. This weekend in Virginia: Vote 2010 Kick-Off
Robert Bruce -- It all starts this weekend. Volunteers in Hampton, throughout Virginia, and across the country are joining together to launch our Vote 2010 campaign. OFA volunteers and staff are making the final preparations right now -- creating maps and lists of voters to talk to -- and they need to know how many supporters are coming. Can you make it? Here are the details: What: Vote 2010 Kick-Off event Can you make it?Where: Single Family Home 105 Wimbleton Ter Hampton, VA 23666 When: Saturday, June 5th 3:00 PM Yes, I'll be there. No, but I want to see other events in my area. Sorry, I can't make it this weekend, but I still want to help. In 2008, there were 15 million voters who cast their ballots for the first time -- roughly 524,273 in Virginia alone -- many of whom supported Barack Obama. And you know how that election turned out. We can make history again, but we need your help to get as many of those supporters as possible back to the polls in November. This weekend, we're getting together to phone bank and knock on the doors of first-time voters in Hampton, asking them to commit to voting again this fall. We know that our best chances of winning are to re-engage those 524,273 voters across the state -- but we'll have to start early. Click here to RSVP: http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/vote2010kickoff/gp8j85 See you out there, Mitch Mitch Stewart Director Organizing for America |

Robert Bruce, can we add your name?
Robert Bruce -- I wanted to make sure you saw the message from Mitch below. The House's vote on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is a huge moment -- for our movement and our country. But this fight is just getting started. The Senate will take up this issue soon, and there are Republicans pledging to block a vote from even taking place. Polls show that 78 percent of the country agrees that it's time to end "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," but opponents of reform aren't getting the message. Can you sign on to help us show that Americans overwhelmingly support repeal? Add your name: http://my.barackobama.com/DADTRepeal Thanks, Yohannes Yohannes Abraham Political Director Organizing for America -----------------Original Message----------------- From: Mitch Stewart, BarackObama.com Subject: "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" Friend -- This is big news: Yesterday, the full House of Representatives and the Armed Services Committee in the Senate voted to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." In his State of the Union address, President Obama pledged to end the law that denies gays and lesbians the right to serve their country. Now, we are closer than ever to making good on that promise. The full Senate will soon start its debate on repeal. But some Republicans are digging in their heels. Senator John McCain said, "I'll do everything in my power" to block a vote. And Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker called the repeal bill "a major mistake" -- announcing that the GOP plans to filibuster. We can defeat those who'd stand in the way of history. But we must show our senators that Americans -- in every state -- overwhelmingly support repeal. Stand with the President and join the pledge to end "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." From the Recovery Act to health reform to Wall Street reform, one by one President Obama is delivering on his campaign promises. And, now -- if we can overcome Republican obstruction -- we have a chance to deliver on another: bringing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" to an end. As the President has said, this is about more than just living up to his word. We must end this law because "it's the right thing to do." Any policy that punishes brave men and women who step forward to serve their country simply for being who they are isn't just misguided -- it's discrimination. That's why President Obama didn't just campaign on ending "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"; he made it a priority. And it's why it's now a matter of how and when -- not if -- we will repeal this law. But as the Republicans prepare to block a vote on this historic legislation, we must do all we can to help deliver on the President's promise. Add your name to the pledge today -- and then please pass it on: http://my.barackobama.com/DADTRepeal Thanks, Mitch Mitch Stewart Director Organizing for America |

What are you doing this weekend?
Robert Bruce -- In less than a week, volunteers across the country will be phone banking and knocking on doors as part of our Vote 2010 Kick-Off. Right now, all across the country, hundreds of volunteer hosts are getting ready for their events, hoping you'll come. One host, Sarah -- a social worker in Missouri -- has been involved with OFA since the beginning, and started leading events during the health care reform fight. This weekend, she's organized a canvass in her home town, "because it's the most effective way to reach voters who understand, from their daily experience, the need for reform -- health care, financial, education, energy, immigration, equal rights, and the environment." Hosts like Sarah are ready -- now, they need volunteers. And that's where you come in: There is a Vote 2010 Kick-Off event in Arlington starting at 10:00 AM on Saturday -- Will you join us? Here are the details: What: Arlington Vote 2010 Kick-Off event Can't make it to that event? Find others near you here.Where: Eric Wiener's 5710 N 8th St Arlington, VA, 22205 When: Saturday, June 5th 10:00 AM Our success in November will come down to one thing -- whether we can get the 15 million folks who voted for the first time in 2008 back to the polls. Historically, these folks are less likely to vote again, but we know that they strongly support the work we're doing. Since just a small swing in their turnout could affect tight races, mobilizing these voters will make the difference. Will you join us in Arlington on Saturday, June 5th at 10:00 AM? http://my.barackobama.com/KickOffEvents Thanks again, Jeremy Jeremy Bird Deputy Director Organizing for America |
