Diane -- On January 1st, our nation turns a corner on health care -- and we're never going back. From here on, no American should have to go broke just because they get sick. You can't be dropped from your plan when you need it most. Pre-existing conditions will never prevent someone from getting coverage, and women can't be charged more than men for their plans. And for millions of Americans, affordable, quality coverage is finally within reach. I am so proud of that. And I have people like you to thank, Diane. Fundamental change like this doesn't happen just because people believe it's the right thing to do. It happens because people like you, and organizations like OFA, fight for it -- no matter how hard it gets. That's why we don't just fight the good fight -- we stay at it until we win. Today, I'm asking you to make a commitment -- 2014 should be a year of action. Pledge to keep fighting for change with OFA: http://my.barackobama.com/2014 Thank you so much -- and happy new year. We're doing something big - here's why:
Diane -- What are you doing the weekend of January 18th? We want to fly you and a friend to D.C. to help OFA celebrate its first birthday -- hotel and tickets are on us for two lucky supporters. What just happened in Congress
Diane -- Take note of what just happened in Congress. Both chambers have now passed a bipartisan budget deal, and it's on its way to President Obama's desk for him to sign -- we've come a long way in the ten weeks since House leaders let an extreme minority shut down the government. That's because of you. That's the power of organizing. OFA supporters spent weeks telling Speaker John Boehner to stand up to the Tea Party Republicans in his caucus. More than a million of you kept the pressure on during the government shutdown, and we're still seeing the impact of that work. It's not a coincidence that John Boehner finally put his foot down with extreme members of his party and helped get this budget deal through. If you'd like to send a quick thank-you note, head on over to Twitter and drop @SpeakerBoehner a message. It's good news that Congress got this done -- this deal funds the government for two years, rolls back some of the devastating sequester cuts that were scheduled to go into effect in January, and continues to reduce the deficit. No one got everything they wanted in this deal -- but it's a step forward and a positive sign for what can happen when members of Congress decide to work together. But let's be clear: There is still work to be done, and there's a lot on the House's plate when the members return in January. One thing on a lot of our minds right now is the 1.3 million unemployed Americans who stand to lose their unemployment benefits on December 28th, just three days after Christmas. Congress needs to fix that as soon as they return. For now, let's hope this budget deal is a sign that more progress is to come. Tweet Speaker Boehner a thank-you note for finding the courage to stand up to the extreme voices in his party, for all of our sakes: http://my.barackobama.com/Thanks-Speaker-Boehner-TW Thanks, Nico Nico Probst Director of Special Projects Organizing for Action ---------------- The other side will spend millions to maintain the status quo. We're fighting for change -- chip in $5 or more to support OFA today. | |
