Last month, I endorsed 54 thoughtful, empathetic, and highly qualified Democratic candidates in four of the states the NDRC is targeting in 2020. I know they can help us redeem our nation's promise by restoring fairness and opportunity to our democracy -- including in the redistricting process.
But they can't do it alone -- these candidates need our help to win their races. The change we all know is possible depends on whether we rise together to meet this moment.

We need to work hard to make sure that Democrats up and down the ballot have the resources they need to win this November -- and that's one reason I'm supporting the NDRC.
In 2010, Republicans rode a wave of special interest spending -- fueled by the Citizens United decision -- to flip hundreds of state legislative seats. They went on to manipulate our electoral maps the next year and we've been dealing with the results for the past decade.
Time and again, we have seen Democrats win more votes statewide, but fail to flip congressional and state legislative seats simply because of the way the lines were drawn. And we feel the consequences of that map manipulation long after Election Day -- gerrymandering has been a huge barrier to achieving the progress Democrats are fighting for.
We can't allow this to happen again. We can't allow Joe Biden's administration to be hobbled by a gerrymandered Congress that cares more about power than progress. And we can't afford more of the same gerrymandered state legislatures that undermined voting rights and failed to expand Medicaid throughout the past decade.
