The Census Bureau released 2020 Census data on Monday that includes which states will be gaining and losing Congressional districts. Here's a readout on changes in our target states: Colorado: + 1 district Florida: + 1 district North Carolina: + 1 district Pennsylvania: - 1 district Ohio: - 1 district If this news alone is enough to get you fired up about the work ahead, make a donation.
As President Obama said when he emailed you this week, the redistricting process is impacted by both where the districts are drawn and how many are in each state. Reapportionment is key to making sure our maps keep up with population changes in our communities -- reallocating the number of districts helps make sure our maps are fair! But it doesn't guarantee fairness -- we need to make sure that every district is drawn in a way that accurately reflects communities and doesn't dilute the power of voters. Chip in to help this grassroots movement hold map manipulators accountable during districting.
Here's why changes in apportionment have such a big impact on the redistricting landscape: it's the foundation of each states' congressional map. And map manipulators may try to take advantage of newly gained or lost seats to unfairly distort district lines. But with your help, we can hold them accountable. -- The AOTL Team All On The Line is the grassroots advocacy campaign supported by the National Redistricting Action Fund.
