Diane, The 2022 elections will be important – no doubt about that. But at the NDRC, our strategy goes way beyond the next three months. We're playing the long game. That means that while others are investing in electing Democrats to the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House, we're helping to elect them to state-level positions that will be critical to stopping the ongoing Republican campaign to destroy democracy. It also means that we're looking ahead to 2023 – when the GOP will almost certainly attempt to gerrymander again – and to 2024, when they could try to overturn the results of the presidential election. That's the difference between our strategy and that of groups only focused on 2022. Building power and solidifying defenses in the states may not be as flashy as spending millions of dollars on a U.S. Senate race, but it will help protect our democracy this year and in the years ahead. Can we count on your grassroots support, Diane?
Donald Trump's strategy to overturn the 2020 election hinged on asking state legislatures to send "alternate" (read: fake) slates of electors for Congress to count. Making sure pro-democracy candidates are in charge of state legislatures and governor's offices in battleground states will be crucial in stopping their attempts. Plus, we care about how we spend your generous donations – and investing in less high profile but no less important races on the state level will get you more bang for your buck. I hope I've convinced you to make a donation today, Diane – both to help elect Democrats this year and to create a democracy-protecting bulwark that will last for years.
Thanks for everything, Garrett Arwa
