Voters sent a clear message during this midterm election by supporting candidates and ballot initiatives that will strengthen our democracy.
As the election unfolded, we saw voters in places like Colorado, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Minnesota and Michigan vote with fairer maps than we've seen in decades. This is the progress we've been working toward.
But it wasn't all good news. Voters in four states -- Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Ohio -- voted with unconstitutional maps where politicians chose their voters instead of the other way around. That's why this fight isn't over.

Republicans tilted the scales in their favor by gerrymandering maps in 2011. This time around, fair map advocates held far-right Republicans accountable when they tried to manipulate the redistricting process or pass gerrymandered maps.
We can't wait until the next census to pay attention to redistricting again. Republicans are already trying to make it harder for voters to pass ballot initiatives -- because they saw what happened in Michigan when voters reformed the redistricting process. And they know it can happen again.
To everyone who attended hearings, advocated for their communities, and cast a ballot this fall -- thank you for being guardians of our democracy.
Let's start building the next chapter.
