Diane,
I want you to take a moment with me and think about the first time you learned about gerrymandering — think about how you felt when you realized just how obviously wrong and backward it is to have such a thing in a representative democracy.
If you're anything like me, you might remember asking yourself, "How could our system allow for such blatant manipulation?"
But instead of choosing to let that feeling disillusion us or make us cynical, we chose to do something about it. When President Obama and I joined forces to launch All On The Line five years ago, it was with the goal of pushing back against a broken status quo, and building a more representative democracy for all Americans. You've been right there with us, and that's truly powerful.

I don't need to be the one to tell you that partisan and racial gerrymandering offend the very notion of fairness. And I surely don't need to be the one to tell you that the work to counter these dangerous attempts to unravel our democracy is challenging, slow, and often frustrating.
But perhaps I can assure you that with a special combination of grit and grace, a movement like ours can be successful in building toward something better.
That's why I'm so grateful to have you by our side. You understand what's at stake and are willing to do the hard work necessary to win – right along with us.
Thank you — from the bottom of my heart — for being with us.
Eric H. Holder, Jr.
