DianeA --

Today, I was lucky enough to be able to return to the city I was born in, Scranton, PA.

You may remember that earlier this year, Donald Trump tried to attack me at his campaign rally by saying I abandoned Pennsylvania when my family moved to Delaware.

Well, DianeA, I’ve never forgotten where I came from. We left Scranton for the same reason a lot of families did -- my dad had to make the longest walk a parent can make and tell us kids that he couldn’t find work, and had to move to Delaware.

Let me be clear, DianeA: this isn’t just about me. Many families across the country have had to face the same struggles.

But Donald Trump doesn’t understand this at all.

He’s not here to make life less difficult for others. He’s here to make life better for himself.

The longest walk Trump’s father ever made was to drop off $400 million in his trust fund account.

I’ve spent my whole career -- and will continue to do so -- fighting like hell to make sure Americans have food on their table and a roof over their head.

I’m ready to keep fighting. And DianeA, I hope I can count on you to be by my side. If you’re with me, will you chip in to my campaign today?

I was 10 years old when we moved away -- and more than fifty years later, through two presidential campaigns, Barack Obama kept talking about me being a scrappy kid from Scranton.

I’d say, for God’s sake, Barack, I served Delaware for 36 years. But he was right about something, Scranton never leaves you.

It climbs into your heart, and it never lets go.

I’ll never forget where I came from and the values I learned in Scranton that still guide me today.

Thanks for reading,

Joe

The Shape of Things: OH-12

Tonight's #DemDebate takes place in one of the most gerrymandered districts in the country. Adopt this district to send a message that we need fair maps.

The Shape Of Things: OH-12

"A political mapmaking process controlled by Ohio Republicans proved nearly impenetrable to Democrats' efforts during the 2018 elections... delivering results that allowed the GOP to retain sizable majorities even in the face of an upswing in Democratic votes."
-- Associated Press

OH-12

The district:
With the Democratic Primary Debate taking place in Westerville, Ohio tonight, we decided to take a look at Ohio's 12th Congressional District -- one of the most gerrymandered districts in the country.

How is it gerrymandered?
This district cracks apart left-leaning central Columbus neighborhoods to purposefully include them in a district that spans across four partial and two whole counties -- most of which are rural and conservative. In 2008, President Obama won this district with a margin of 53% to 46%. During the 2011 redistricting process, the district was then gerrymandered to become a Republican stronghold -- in fact, with the new manipulated maps, President Obama would have lost that district in 2008 45% to 54% according to analysis by Daily Kos.

With the #DemDebate in Ohio tonight, we have an opportunity to put the spotlight on how this district was rigged by map manipulators. Adopt Ohio's 12th District with a small monthly donation to help All On the Line push for fair districts in Ohio and states across the nation.

So who represents OH-12?
That would be a man named Troy Balderson. From pledging to repeal Obamacare to receiving an A rating from the NRA, he's embraced conservative stances that are out of sync with Ohio's voters.

What can we do?
Fix gerrymandering. In 2018, Republicans only won 52% of votes but secured 75% of the congressional districts -- thanks to Republicans controlling the political mapmaking process. But we have the chance to make sure map manipulators do not rig the maps against progress for the next decade. Last year, Ohio voters overwhelmingly supported a ballot initiative for a bipartisan redistricting process -- but it will take a strong grassroots effort to ensure the 2021 redistricting cycle yields fair maps.

All On the Line is committed to building a strong grassroots movement for fair maps in states like Ohio. While the Democratic candidates for president take the stage in Westerville, take a stand against partisan gerrymandering by adopting Ohio's 12th District with a small monthly contribution.

DianeA,

Today, there are still 28 states where LGBTQ Americans can get married on Saturday, and be fired the following Monday -- just for being who they are. For transgender Americans, it’s 29 states. In 2019, in the United States of America, that’s unacceptable.

This morning, the Supreme Court heard arguments on three critically important cases that will determine whether LGBTQ citizens can depend on the same civil and human rights protections under the law to which every American is entitled.

  • R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes v. E.E.O.C. and Aimee Stephens will decide whether Title VII of the Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination against transgender Americans.
  • Altitude Express, Inc. v. Melissa Zarda and Gerald Lynn Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia will decide whether Title VII prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Look -- we’re all God’s children.

The idea that someone can tell you that you can’t be who you are in your heart is wrong. Plain and simple.

I’m proud to stand with LGBTQ Americans every day.

This is a critical time for LGBTQ rights. The Supreme Court has the opportunity to stand on the right side of history and afford basic workplace protections to LGBTQ Americans. Everyone in America deserves justice and equality under the law.

If you’re with me on this, add your name to our petition to say “I support workplace protections for LGBTQ Americans” »

Add Your Name »

I’m proud of the way the Obama-Biden Administration led on LGBTQ rights in America and around the world.

I’m proud of the fact that my son Beau, as Delaware’s Attorney General, helped pass the first non-discrimination law against transgender Americans in Delaware’s history.

But more importantly, I’m proud of the way that LGBTQ Americans all across this country bravely stood up and shared their stories, changing public opinion and leading the way for marriage equality.

LGBTQ rights are human rights. There is no question here.

So I’ll ask once more before I head back on the trail today. DianeA, if you proudly stand with the LGBTQ community, then please add your name to show your support »

Thank you with all my heart,

Joe Biden

President Obama called on you, and now I am urging you to answer his call

The Democratic Unity Fund is the key to helping our eventual nominee for president and candidates down the ballot to take on Trump and his allies.

DemocratsJoin us.

We just learned that Donald Trump and the RNC have raised over $300 million this year alone. Trump has been campaigning since day one of his presidency, and his incumbency comes with a massive fundraising advantage and head start.

$300,000,000

You can see for yourself. It's going to take a massive team effort for us to win the presidency and races everywhere in 2020. That's exactly where the Democratic Unity Fund comes in.

Democratic Unity Fund

The Democratic Unity Fund is a unified effort, originally announced by President Obama, to pave the path to victory for candidates nationwide. It's a promise that no matter who voters choose to be the Democratic nominee, she or he will have a windfall of support and an incredibly strong infrastructure to match Trump's massive lead.

President Obama

We're urgently asking you to join the growing group of 33,942 Democratic Unity Fund donors today. Democrats everywhere are counting on you to make your first contribution to the fund to win the Oval Office and seats up and down the ticket.

Your supporter record

We need all hands on deck to help launch our eventual nominee to the White House. Join your fellow Democrats by making a $3 donation to the Democratic Unity Fund.

President Barack Obama helped launch this fund with the DNC because he knows that it takes a strong and diverse coalition of Democrats coming together to win. That's how he won in 2008 and 2012. And that's how our eventual Democratic nominee and their fellow Democratic candidates nationwide will win next year.

President Obama called on you, and now I am urging you to answer his call. Make a $3 donation to the Democratic Unity Fund and join the league of Democrats ready to take on Trump.

Thank you for all you do,

Tom

Tom Perez
Chair
Democratic National Committee

P.S. This is the last quarter of the election cycle before Democrats like you begin voting for the Democratic nominee. Election Day will be here before we know it, so it's especially critical that you donate $3 to the Democratic Unity Fund today so our eventual nominee can have the strongest possible DNC at their fingertips.
