Climate deniers: The list

Organizing for Action
Diane --

Climate change isn't just scary. It's expensive.

Over the last two years, extreme weather events cost us more than $188 billion. Yes -- that's billion, not million.

As the effects of climate change worsen and extreme weather events become more frequent, the cost will only increase.

And here we are, still talking about the more than 100 members of Congress -- real-life elected officials -- who are in utter denial about climate change.

The thing is, we can do better. We can bring that cost down through smart changes in our policy and at home.

But nothing's going to change in Washington until the deniers do. The first step is getting folks to admit we have a problem.

Find out which lawmakers near you are living and governing in denial, then join the team holding them accountable today:

Pass this video along - it's a good one

Organizing for Action
Diane --

Leading up to our big summer of organizing, we put together a short video to help explain who OFA is, what we've done, and where we're going.

It's a quick watch -- so if you've got some friends or family who you think should get involved, send them this video and ask them to join the team:

What is OFA? Take a look -- then join us.

Thanks -- and stay tuned for what's next.

And the list keeps growing...

Organizing for Action
Diane --

Climate deniers are everywhere in Congress -- and OFA supporters just drew another one out into the light.

Volunteers have held nearly 100 planning sessions, and had 50 events across the country last week to start the conversation on climate with their legislators.

Get this -- following one of these events, a reporter in Missouri tracked down a letter from Rep. Ann Wagner to a blogger, outing herself as yet another lawmaker who doesn't believe in the overwhelming science on this issue. The reporter confirmed the statements in the letter with the congresswoman's office.

That's exactly why organizing -- and actually raising our voices -- on climate change matters. And it's not all bad news: Dozens of congressional offices expressed their support during last week's Day of Action on climate, and committed to the fight in the months ahead.

Couldn't make it to an event last week? Don't worry -- there will be plenty more chances for you to get involved this summer.

Add your name -- and join the team that's working to change the conversation on climate.

There are still many folks out there who question the basic fact that climate change is real -- some very influential members of Congress have even called it a hoax.

We're working to make sure that, at every step of the way, the Ann Wagners of the world will have to answer to their constituents on why they don't believe in science.

Be sure to join the fight to hold climate deniers accountable:

Keep up the great work. Thanks,

Gotta know if you're in

Diane --

Just wanted to make sure you saw the President's note from the other day.

If you're ready to keep fighting for change, now's the time to answer his question and say you're in:

Friend --

I keep a to-do list in my desk.

It's ambitious, but you and I didn't set out to do easy things.

As long as I can count on you to be a part of this, we will find a way to make progress on all of it -- continuing to create good-paying jobs, fixing our broken immigration system, finding a common-sense way to reduce gun violence in this country, and more.

No president can do it alone.

Say you're in:

There's a lot of work to do -- thanks for doing your part.

Say you're in, Diane

Diane --

President Obama is going to bat for us on the big issues we care about -- gun safety, climate change, marriage equality, immigration reform, and more.

But he knows -- and so do we -- that he can't win those fights on his own.

Every person who steps up and says they're with us makes our movement that much bigger, stronger, and that much more powerful in Washington.

Go on -- say you're in today:

Let's get to work,

Jon

Let’s Read. Let’s Move. 2013: Help Get Kids Reading and Moving this Summer

Let's Read. Let's Move. (banner)

Dear Volunteer:

Early this year, you were among thousands of American who pledged to give back to their community.

Summer is here and you are probably gearing up for at least a little time spent relaxing and vacationing with family and friends. At the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), we look forward to summer too because it means the launch of our annual United We Serve: Let's Read. Let's Move. initiative and we'd like you to join us.

Let's Read. Let's Move. focuses on some of the most important issues that face our nation's children today including summer learning loss that contributes to low academic achievement, childhood obesity and summer hunger.

We can make a difference when it comes to maintaining or improving students' academic achievement.  Children who are not engaged in learning between school years suffer from "summer learning loss."  Reading just five books during the summer can make all the difference for many children and we can help make sure these students are encouraged to read.

Childhood obesity is another issue that faces many of our youth.  Having access to welcoming play spaces or other activities that get them up and moving is both a fun way to spend the summer and a way to increase health.  The CNCS Let's Read. Let's Move. initiative is proud to support First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! call to get children moving and exercising all year.

Finally, many children who have access to free or reduced-price meals during the school year do not have that resource when the school year ends.  Getting students and parents information on summer food programs that can provide them a nutritious meal to thrive is key to ending summer hunger.

We invite you to join us in addressing these issues; please visit our website to find an opportunity near you.

Best,
