The last four years

Diane -- What an exhilarating week. We heard some great speeches, and we got to watch President Barack Obama accept the Democratic Party's nomination for president of the United States one last time. As we head into the final sprint to Election Day, I wanted to take a minute to look back at what we've accomplished together over the past four years, and what we have left to do. When the President took office, the economy was losing private sector jobs at a rate of nearly 800,000 a month. Under President Obama, we've started recovering from the worst economic recession since the Great Depression, and have had 30 straight months of private sector job growth -- with 4.6 million private sector jobs created during that period. There's no question that there's much more work to do, but we've done a lot over the past four years to create and save jobs, reform our health care system, and protect equality for all Americans. Take a look at these posts and videos, and share this email with your friends and family, so they know what's at stake this fall. #1 Promises kept When he accepted the Democratic Party's nomination for president four years ago, then-Senator Obama promised change -- on issues ranging from health care, to strengthening the middle class, to fighting for greater equality for all Americans -- and he has delivered on that promise. Take a look at this video highlighting the President's accomplishments, and be sure others know how he has kept his promises: #2 How far we've come When President Obama took office nearly four years ago, the country was facing two wars and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. He immediately began working to turn around an economy in free fall, bring the troops home, and lay the foundation for an economy built from the middle out. Four years later, we've added back 4.6 million private sector jobs over 30 straight months of job growth. Retirement balances are 35% higher than they were in 2008, and housing prices are beginning to recover as foreclosures have declined. We've ended the era of "too big to fail," reined in Wall Street practices that take advantage of consumers, and stopped insurance companies from dropping you when you get sick, capping your coverage, or denying children -- and soon, adults -- care because of preexisting conditions. Take a look at this post about our progress, and share it with others: #3 President Clinton fact-checks the GOP In his speech nominating President Obama for re-election, President Bill Clinton took on some of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan's false attacks point-by-point. Our opponents will no doubt continue to twist the truth in an effort to distort President Obama's record, and it's our job to get the facts out -- just like President Clinton did. Take a look at this post, and share it with others: #4 The American auto industry When President Obama took office, the American auto industry faced collapse -- and countless jobs were on the line. Despite Mitt Romney's calls to "let Detroit go bankrupt," the President made the decision to rescue General Motors and Chrysler, saving more than a million jobs. Those companies quickly paid back their outstanding government loans, and now, these American companies are making a steady comeback. Take a look at this blog post highlighting where the American auto industry stands now, and share it with others: #5 Progress on immigration President Obama has strongly supported the DREAM Act, which would give hardworking students a chance to be part of the country they call home. When Republicans blocked the DREAM Act, President Obama decided to act where Congress wouldn't, and took steps to lift the shadow of deportation from young people who were brought to this country through no fault of their own. President Obama will continue to fight for immigration reform, but the actions he's taken will make a real difference in the lives of many talented, driven, and patriotic young people across America. I am so proud to have worked for the Senator, who spent his life fighting for better health care, equal rights, and policies that strengthen and protect the middle class.
