In the final hours before this deadline, we wanted to give you a quick recap of six things that members of the All On The Line team said this week!
President Obama: "Our opponents plan to use the redistricting process to further manipulate the maps and entrench themselves in power -- they've made their intentions clear. And unless we stop them, they will draw maps that ensure victories in Congress and state legislatures without having to earn more votes."
A.G. Holder: "Extreme, partisan politicians have been waiting for this data delivery to begin their map manipulation schemes."
John Bisognano, Executive Director: "This will be the first redistricting cycle in decades without the Voting Rights Act preclearance -- thanks to Chief Justice Roberts and other conservatives on the Supreme Court -- severely limiting the federal government's ability to intervene to stop inappropriate map manipulation."
Saumya Narechania, Campaign Manager: "We are already seeing attempts at map manipulation. Before the Census Bureau released the redistricting data, conservatives were already trying to stack the deck in their favor."
Claire Low, Director of Targeting and Analytics: "With the 2020 Census delay, many states are under tight constitutional or electoral deadlines for the upcoming 2022 elections. As a result, some maps could be passed as soon as September!"
