Hi Diane, I wanted to share some inside info with you from some of our final staff discussions in 2021. (Spoiler alert: The NDRC is going to be busy in 2022, so it's really important to hit our $199,000 end-of-year goal -- you can chip in here to help.) Here's a quick overview of what we talked about: - We're hearing rumblings that there could be movement on the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act early next year, so we need to be prepared to fire up our efforts to support these bills right away.
- About half of the congressional maps have yet to be adopted, so there is still plenty of work to do organizing communities to advocate for fair districts.
- Even in states like North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas where maps have been adopted, voters have filed lawsuits to challenge gerrymandered districts, so our fight isn't over!
Simply put, 2022 is going to be a big year in the NDRC's efforts to demand fair maps and defend democracy, so we need to be ready to hit the ground running. President Obama himself said, "The fight isn't over yet." He's absolutely right, which is why we must be prepared to take action. Given everything on our agenda in 2022, our finance team emphasized that it's REALLY important to hit our $199,000 end-of-year fundraising goal. But the deadline is tomorrow night -- can I count on you to rush a last-minute contribution to help us out? Thank you! -- Erika | | Since 2017, the NDRC has executed a comprehensive redistricting strategy that shifts the redistricting power, creating fair districts where Democrats can compete. Our victories have been made possible by our strong community of grassroots supporters. | | If you want to receive periodic updates from the NDRC on our fight for fair maps, text MAPS to 36787.
