I wanted you to see a few examples of how the All On The Line and its affiliates make a difference.
Last year, the Supreme Court heard arguments in Allen v. Milligan, a case in which Alabama voters challenged the state's congressional map for diluting the voting power of Black communities. Pundits predicted the Court's ruling would dismantle key provisions of the Voting Rights Act. Instead, the Court reaffirmed the Voting Rights Act's role as an important tool for making our democracy fairer.
Then, last week, the Supreme Court firmly rejected the fringe independent state legislature theory, a decision that protected the very foundations of our democracy. This momentous ruling strikes down the far-right attempt to undermine our cherished system of checks and balances, sending a resounding message that legislators are not shielded from accountability when they violate voters' rights.
On these two decisions, the Court got it right. These victories represent a powerful affirmation that our democracy is too important to be dismantled for one party's political gain. Victories like these couldn't happen without the work of Attorney General Eric Holder, All On The Line, its affiliates, and most importantly, people like you.
Even when the cynics said the cause was hopeless, we never wavered in our commitment to fight for fair maps, fair representation, and a strong democracy. That tenacity has fueled our grassroots efforts to help secure the fairest congressional map in a generation. And we've got to keep it going for the battles ahead.
Diane, preserving our democracy demands that we keep showing up to fight for it. We've seen what happens when we do. We say it's All On The Line for a reason -- and I hope I can count on you to support our vital work.
