Diane -- In 2009, my schoolmate Greg Robinson was in the backseat of a car returning home from a basketball game when someone with a gun opened fire. He died shielding his young cousins from gunfire. Greg wasn't a gang member -- he was a 14-year-old who wanted to play basketball. He was quiet and kind, and that year, he was the 28th student in the Chicago public school system to be killed. Since then, I've been fighting for common-sense gun legislation to honor Greg's memory and to help prevent this kind of violence from happening again. I added my name to OFA's petition to Congress demanding action on gun violence. But my voice and my story isn't enough on its own. Together, our voices are powerful enough to make Congress act -- so please, add your name, too. Right now, I live in Georgia for school -- and last month I watched my new senators both vote against expanding background checks for gun sales. It was disappointing and disheartening. All I could think about was the kids back in my neighborhood in Chicago. We have an acronym: LIFE -- living in fear everyday. But bullets don't come with name tags. No one intended to shoot Greg, or his little cousins. On your walk to school or on your way home, you couldn't help but be afraid that it could happen to you. Diane -- As we saw when the Senate voted last month, the fight over expanding background checks for gun sales isn't just about what's right and wrong. It's about power. And the gun lobby is extremely powerful. If we're going to win fights like this, we have to be relentless in making our voices heard. That's what this petition is about. Each and every name represents a constituent with power -- a voice. When we deliver it to congressional leaders next week, your name should be on it. Diane -- Right now, way too many lawmakers in Washington flat-out refuse to face the facts when it comes to climate change. We're never going to make real progress on this issue unless members of Congress get serious. Instead, some of them have made a habit of publicly mocking it. We thought it was time to call them out for denying what's basic science. Watch this embarrassing video of climate deniers in Congress -- and say you're ready to help hold them accountable: The science matters in this. That's the message way too many people in Washington need to hear right now. In 2011, there were 240 members of Congress who voted to say that climate change is a hoax. Most of them are still around today, and they're getting away with it -- some of them are actually proud of it. They think the whole debate is pretty funny. What do you have to say to Congress?

Diane -- Yesterday, 45 senators chose to ignore their constituents and stand with the gun lobby. And because of Senate rules, this minority was able to stand in the way of a bipartisan measure to expand background checks for gun sales. A lot of people are reading the headlines today and wondering how these senators had the nerve to get up there -- right in front of victims' families from Newtown -- and cast that vote against something that more than 90 percent of Americans support. I'm one of them. Those senators made a cynical calculation that, at the end of the day, the gun lobby would be louder and stronger than we are. Yesterday was just round one. We will keep fighting. If you're one of the millions of Americans who care deeply about preventing gun violence, you need to show it today. The Senate could vote today - pick up the phone

Diane -- The Senate is expected to vote today on expanding background checks for gun sales -- a measure that would go a long way toward reducing gun violence and making our communities safer. Our senators are debating right now, and we expect the vote to be very close -- now is the time to speak up. Can you pick up the phone right now and call the Senate? It only takes a few minutes of your time to make your voice heard.
