DianeA,
Every single day, I was proud to serve as your Vice President -- but never more than the day the Affordable Care Act was signed.
When it was finally enacted into law, you might remember I told President Obama it was a big deal – or words to that effect. And it was.
The Affordable Care Act extended health insurance to an additional 20 million people by the time President Obama and I left office. And, because of that law, tens of millions of people with pre-existing conditions no longer have to be worried about being denied coverage. Now we have to finish the job and make health care a right for all and not a privilege for the few, and give everyone the peace of mind they deserve.
But instead of doing more to expand access to quality, affordable health care, Republicans have been steadily working to dismantle the ACA to devastating effect.
In recent weeks, the CDC released a survey that reveals about 30.4 million Americans did not have health insurance in 2018, up from 29.3 million in 2017. That means about 1.1 million more Americans were uninsured last year compared to the year before.
We can’t let this be the new normal. Help me reach 50,000 signatures standing to defend and then boldly build upon the Affordable Care Act: Let’s not kid one another: This is a concerted effort by Congressional Republicans and Donald Trump. And if they win in 2020, they’re coming after not only the Affordable Care Act but also Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security. They’ve said so.
But we can’t afford to go backwards on this. Millions of Americans need to have the right to health care.
How can a person’s dignity be maintained if they can’t afford to care for a sick child or a family member because of a pre-existing condition – or because they’ve reached a point where their health insurer says “no more?”
We’ve got to finish the job on health care, DianeA.
If you agree, can you sign your name with mine to protect and build upon the Affordable Care Act in the fight ahead? We need to reach 50,000 names. Thanks, DianeA. We have a lot of work to do.
