We do it for our students

Obama - Biden
Diane --

As President Obama's national political director, I have a pretty tough job. But nothing compares to the years I spent teaching.

My first job out of college was teaching kindergarten in a West Denver public school. I learned very quickly just how important education was to the predominantly Latino community there. Education was a path to success, and as teachers we fought every day for a better future for our students.

President Obama has made this fight a key part of his presidency. It shouldn't matter whether a student lives in West Denver or East Denver, New Mexico or New Hampshire -- access to a good education should be guaranteed.

Yet Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan see things differently. To them a good education is a luxury that is available to only a few. Their plans would cut the programs that have helped millions more students afford college and get a head start in school, all in order to pay for a massive new tax cut for millionaires and billionaires.

With Election Day just 11 weeks away, we need to speak out as Educators for Obama. Use our call tool to reach voters across the country now.

Our students, our kids, and our grandkids simply cannot afford Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan's plan for education in this country.

Their budget could cut education spending by 20 percent, eliminating teachers and increasing class sizes. Instead of continuing our commitment to improving the lowest-performing public schools, Romney would abandon them in favor of bolstering private schools with taxpayer-funded vouchers.

What's more, these out-of-touch policies could make affording college much more difficult for the millions of bright young students relying on Pell Grants and student loans to continue their education.

Our country is depending on a new generation of Americans to be the entrepreneurs, engineers, and innovators who will fuel our economy and keep us successful internationally. President Obama understands that all of this starts with a good education -- and investing in it should be a national priority.

We can't turn back now. Join other Educators for Obama today, and make a few calls:

Today, my daughter Graciela is following in my footsteps, teaching in the same community in West Denver where I made my start. I'm incredibly proud of her choice, and incredibly proud of what the President has accomplished in the past few years. There is so much at stake for her, her students, and all Americans this November 6th.

Thank you for being a part of this campaign,

Katherine
