Thanks to you

Diane --

When I decided to become a community organizer in Chicago more than 30 years ago, I could never have imagined where that choice would take me.

Through that work, I learned that real change rarely comes from the top down. And it doesn't just happen because people believe it's the right thing to do. Progress is built from the bottom up, at kitchen tables, school board meetings, and town halls all across the country. It happens because people knock on doors, talk to their neighbors, and call their legislators.

It's the kind of work OFA volunteers have been doing for years. And today, through organizing and through shared sacrifice, we've proven that change -- real change -- is possible.

Groups like OFA bring people and communities together; they empower people to use their voices to advocate for progress. And you can join them right now -- add your name, and get to work.

Together, we've climbed out of the depths of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression to build the strongest, most durable economy in the world. We've done it while investing in clean energy and increasing high school graduation rates -- and we've done it while cutting our deficits and our dependence on foreign oil.

Twenty million more people now have access to affordable health coverage. Those aren't just statistics -- those are real lives, real families who can rest easier at night without fear that a sudden medical emergency could leave them in financial ruin. We've also led the fight to take on climate change, building an international coalition committed to reducing carbon pollution and protecting our planet for our children and future generations to come.

I'm incredibly proud of that, but I want to be clear: No president could have accomplished any of this on his or her own. It's thanks to you, fighting right along with me on these issues for all these years.

But we can't become complacent. Progress isn't inevitable. We've got more work to do and more ground to cover.

That's why I'm asking you to keep fighting for change. Say you're ready to keep this movement strong:

Thank you for all you do -- and happy Fourth of July,

Barack Obama
