This is the legacy we want to leave

Organizing for Action
Diane --

Lisa Edwards' story is exactly why OFA runs a fellowship program.

After months of training as an organizing fellow, and tireless hours spent helping people in her community get signed up for health coverage through the Affordable Care Act, she felt prepared to do something big.

And that's exactly what she did. Lisa worked with partner organizations and community leaders to build a big event on the final day of enrollment to ensure people in her community were informed and able to get enrolled before the deadline.

By 6:00 a.m. that morning, several hundred were already in line -- and by the end of the day, over 300 people had signed up. Additionally, press coverage of the event helped inform thousands more about the upcoming deadline.

Lisa says that experience was "the most intense fight of my life." It's because of people like her that real progress happens in this country.

Finding and training the next generation of progressive leaders is what the OFA Fellowship Program is all about. We're on the verge of building our summer fellowship -- will you chip in to help support a fellow?

When we set out to create this fellowship program, we knew it was important to make sure volunteers in under-served communities had the chance to be part of it. We don't ask people to pay tuition, and we don't ask anyone to relocate from their home communities.

We also set out to create a fellowship program as diverse as the communities we serve -- when we surveyed our applicants last year, we found that 61 percent are women, and 56 percent are non-white.

These fellows represent the future of organizing.

OFA strives to give these folks the hands-on, practical skills needed to have a visible, meaningful impact in communities across the country. These fellows follow in the footsteps of generations of organizers who stood up, got involved, and learned from the people who had come before -- like President Obama did 30 years ago on the south side of Chicago.

That's the legacy we want to leave, because it's hard to look at what people like Lisa Edwards are doing and not be hopeful about the future.

We need your help funding this program -- chip in $5 or more today to do your part:
