We could meet this fall, Diane

Diane --

I remember my first day as a community organizer like it was yesterday. I was handed a long list of neighborhood residents, and for the next three weeks, I went door-to-door to meet with every one of them. We talked about their jobs and their families, and we tried to come up with solutions to the problems they were seeing in their neighborhoods.

It wasn't easy work. But those years in Chicago taught me valuable lessons about the importance of organizing.

It starts with the basics -- we can accomplish some incredible things just by starting conversations in our own communities. Organizers around the country are bringing folks together every day. That work is worth celebrating.

This November, OFA is doing just that at the Organizing Summit in Washington, D.C. I'll be coming, too -- tell them you're ready to fight for progress this fall, and they'll automatically enter you for a chance to meet with me there.

The fundamentals of organizing haven't changed much since '85 -- and lately we're seeing them used to accomplish big things, from affordable health care to marriage equality for all.

With those fundamentals in our pocket going forward, organizers can change the conversation around pressing issues in communities across the country. OFA's Summit is highlighting that work right now.

I hope we'll have the chance to meet this fall at the Organizing Summit:
