"An up-or-down vote"

Organizing for Action
Diane --

Senator Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate's Judiciary Committee, knows how the Constitution works. He's been in the Senate for more than three decades.

And throughout those 35 years in the Senate, Senator Grassley has repeatedly called on his colleagues to give judicial nominees fair consideration and an "up-or-down vote":

President Obama's Supreme Court nominee shouldn't be treated any differently.

Now, Senator Grassley is refusing to hold a hearing on any nominee President Obama puts forward, no matter who they are or how qualified they might be. He has never believed in obstructing a Supreme Court nominee in this way before -- why should the President's nominee be treated any differently?

President Obama is going to do his job and nominate a qualified Supreme Court Justice -- tell Senate leaders to do theirs, and give that person a fair hearing and a timely up-or-down vote. Sign the petition.

This kind of purely political obstruction is absolutely unprecedented.

The only explanation for disregarding the Constitution now is that Senator Grassley has decided to put politics and petty partisanship ahead of his core responsibilities as a senator and judiciary chair. He should listen to his own past statements.

Join OFA in calling on Senator Grassley and other leaders on the Judiciary Committee to do their jobs and give President Obama's nominee a fair hearing. Sign the petition:
