Yesterday, President Obama announced Judge Merrick Garland as his nominee to be our next Supreme Court justice -- and Senate Republicans immediately doubled down on their opposition to confirming him.
Read on to learn more about Judge Garland, and then add your name to tell Senate Republicans to do their jobs.
The White House just announced that President Obama is nominating Merrick B. Garland to become our next Supreme Court justice.
A native of Chicago, Merrick Garland has been a judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since 1997, serving as Chief Judge since 2013. With two decades of federal court experience, Garland is fully prepared for all of the responsibilities he will face as our next Supreme Court justice -- no matter how Senate Republicans try to spin it.
Frankly, I've grown a little sick of Republicans in Congress and their antics that have ranged from simply unproductive to downright offensive. Over the course of President Obama's seven years in office, the GOP has used our Congress as its own stage for public temper tantrums and meltdowns, habitually standing in the way of progress instead of doing their jobs and helping our country move forward.
This is not leadership, Diane. This is obstruction. It's a vendetta against President Obama's presidency, plain and simple, and we just cannot afford to let the Republican Party hold a fully-functioning government hostage with their political games -- especially at the expense of the Supreme Court.
So add your name to send Senate Republicans the message that it's time for them to do their jobs and confirm Judge Garland:
