| Friend -- We don't want to alarm you too much, but we thought it was really important you saw this take in Mother Jones: The scary thing is they're right. If we don't do everything we can right now to stop Republicans from gerrymandering the maps, Democrats could be shut out of power for the next ten years! President Obama said it best: "If we don't fight for fair maps now, we won't have another chance until 2031." Here are just some of the latest redistricting developments: - Ohio Republicans just unveiled a congressional map that could lock in a 12-3 advantage for the GOP in an otherwise hotly contested swing state.
- In North Carolina, Republicans' proposed map could hand them nearly 75% of the state's U.S. House seats, despite Trump winning less than half the vote there in 2020.
- Texas Republicans drew maps that reduce the number of minority-majority districts, despite the fact that non-white communities were the driving factor behind the state's population growth!
The good news is that while time may be running out, it's definitely not too late to make an impact. And the way we see it, you have two choices: You can either sit back and watch Republicans keep chipping away at our democracy, or you can do everything you can to help us keep up the fight for fair maps in these critical final months.
