This week, Paul Ryan was elected Speaker of the House by my Republican colleagues. And I wish him luck -- I really mean that.
He has promised that his speakership will bring "real reform," but that means he'll have to make some tough decisions between doing what is right for the country, and keeping the promises he's made to the extreme right wing of his party.
So far, his list of priorities for the American people makes no mention of paid family leave (of course), and he's made a pledge not to bring up immigration reform while President Obama is still in office. So we're not exactly off to a great start.
This is why it is so important that we do everything we can to elect Democrats who will get the job done in 2016. We met our first goal of 30,000 grassroots donations by the end of this month, so we're looking for 5,000 more by midnight tonight to really take us over the top. Can I count on you to be one of them?
